The sinfonietta is one of the last pieces of Janacek, who was to die two years later. It is a tribute to the armed forces of the young Czech Republic. The melodic and harmonic style is typical of Janacek, even if the style is less fragmented than usual. The orchestra uses 9 trumpets (in three parts: 3 trumpets by part) and two tenor tubas. Each movement has an orchestration of its own. The general style is marked by enthusiasm ans dynamism.
