HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEO KOTTKE 09-11-1945 - still playing, still touring, still the best guitarist/composer of my life.

This 'age' is like no other in history. I remember seeing Leo in '73 and again a few times over the years. When I see him here, like with all other aging celebrities who have been in the bright lights for an extended period of time (unlike now, everyone seems to be a flash in the pan, here one day, gone in a couple to 5 years if they're lucky, it seems). Point being it's amazing to realize how life has 'progressed' in almost real time compared to having to wait for the Hollywood stars of yesteryear that you didn't catch during their first go-round so you had to wait for them to appear on re-run TV movies, or re-run theater movies, etc. Now, it's instantaneous. You want to see somebody from the time they were 18 till they're in their 80's and beyond, you can do that now with a simple key stroke....that's my point.

King of the 12 string Self taught, he opened for the Eagles in Rochester NY. When I was walking in listening yet unable to see the stage and believing to see Musicians three. I discovered a blessing in Leo Kottke at 16...

Just discovered Leo Kottke a couple of years ago. Wish I got to see him in Concert. Just saw a youtube with Leo and another favourite, Doc Watson. Sniff! Both gone.

I can imagine and pray for a world without fear, without Republicans but would not want to live in a world without Leo.

I certainly like (to play) acoustic guitar, and Kottke is certainly a great player, but for 20 years I try to get into his style, and it still gets boring after three songs, and even depressing when he starts to sing

Try counting.

Charles peterson ... Yeah, Charles. Counting or tapping along with Leos' method of playing guitar is tricky if one imagines a straight 4/4 or 3/4 kind of beat. But he plays in way down tunings to enable the low down range of his basso voice, and he fools our normal time senses by jumping the gun earlier and skipping beats in a way that would ordinarily be considered by us mere mortals to be mistakes, except that he does it regularly and time sensibly consistently. Once the ear adjusts it's actually a very brilliant and bent kind of rare beauty that LK has so successfully popularised...
