The Stones were effectively broken up between Dirty Work and Steel Wheels- Keith and Mick were at war for a few years, bitching at each other in the media. This was around the time Keith formed the X pensive Winos and Mick was touring the world solo but 2/3 of his show was Stones numbers.

@@jasonph2522 Anyway , although remaining a valid live performing band , their post 1980 output puts me to sleep (apart from a few exceptions) . Jagger is an ace businessman ofcourse,who made sure he had the right connections. No wonder their set list contains for 99 % pre 1980 material , for fear their audience might doze off.

We were all learning our instruments together, but it was only 1 guy and I who went All In for TYA !!! Saw u guys 2X at the Fillmore East and agian at Bethel Woods in 1999....

I was too young to witness 10 Years After live, but was fortunate enough to see Alvin play at a small venue in Atlanta, GA on a Thursday night in 1984. Probably only 150 folks in the place that evening, Alvin looked & acted like he was 19 years old on stage in his green high top Keds sneakers, dancing and playing that famous peace sign Big Red Gibson. I remember him saying something about "He was Having Revelations" on stage that night. After the GREATEST show imaginable, Alvin Lee drove off in a Greyhound Tour Bus that read "TOO STONED ROLLING" on the illuminated front sign over the windshield. Thanks for the music LEO!!!

Leo. Thanks for this snipet into Ten Yeras After !. I'm 71 yo, I and a fellow garage band member back in 1968 learned of TYA as 17 year olds. Then learned TYA would be at Woodstock. We did NOT go to Bethel for the Festival, but did see the Woodstock movie that came out about a year later. That prompted us to see TYA at the Fillmore East on at least two occssions (circa 1970-71). As you said, No Glitter, Blowing smoke and all the other Nonsense, just a fanatastic Rock/Blues band which are still near and dear to My Heart. I listen frequently. I wish to proclaim that I continue to prod wherever I can to have TYA inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame!! Compared to many memebers that have been inducted, IMHO, the rendition of I'm Going Home [by Hellicopter] at Woodstock is enough for that Induction. It was a Generation Shaking performance. PS: I did get the last chance to see TYA again with my 15 yo son and his friend at Bethel Woods Woodstock 1998 (the 29th Year Anniversary). RIP Alvin, and Good wishes to you and good luck in your future endeavors in Music.

I think the partnerships and friendships that derive from being in a band are very special and extremely demanding, more intense than anything else I've experienced. A decade is a long time in the music business, and very few bands carry on longer than that. It must have been hard when TYA split up, but it was an honest decision, and their legacy is enormous. I'm very glad to have been around as a young teenager to enjoy you guys at your peak late 60s/early 70s. Thank you for the music!!

Saw TYA at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston during the summer of 1970. I still remember the first song you played was "Love like a man". Hearing the first few notes of that song coming from Alvin's guitar put such a smile on my face.

Any plans in the future of touring the U.S. again with 10070 Split. Would you ever consider a small music festival in the historic old west town of Deadwood South Dakota. An annual event I have attended every year for 28 straight years. Was founded by John McEuen.

I saw the band perform two shows at Toronto's Rockpile on April 20, 1969. They were on the same tour as Howlin' Wolf. I didn't know anything about the Wolf at the time and was freaked out by him. Then came 10 yrs after that smoked the place. I made it up to the dressing room and watched as Leo Lyons took off his sweat soaked shirt and threw it against the wall. I also got Alvin's autograph. I first heard of them on radio - someone was playing Spoonful from the first album. I bought Undead first on December 8, 1968 and couldn't believe how good it was. I bought the first album after seeing them at the Rockpile on May 3, 69. Geddy Lee bought the third album Stonedhenge but didn't like it so he sold it to me for two bucks on April 24, '69. That's it!

I've been a TYA fan since I was 13 (1973) and saw you guys that year in Newcastle and every time you came near until the band split. But it was the intensity of the band's sound in your Undead album that originally hooked me in. The club jazz blues sound (Woody Herman et-al) was just electric. Stayed with me all my life. Great Channel. Leo can you let us know if the Isle of Wight shows was filmed completely? Years ago I heard from TYA collector and friend Herb Stahr said it was filmed and about to come out and that was 20 years ago. Herb was a great friend and the best archivist of TYA in the world. He even had the guitar Alvin played in 1970 and played at the IOW 70 and Fillmore Shows- Herb R.I.P. I enjoy hearing from Leo Lyons now on his channel, superb stories. Any hope of a book? The band TYA should of never broke up. Only if Alvin looked at the big picture. I would put TYA as one of the greatest bands of the time. Just watch the 1975 Winterland show. The Band was on fire. I wish history was different and the band stayed together. Neil Young did things correctly with Crazy Horse. Alvin should of did the same with TYA. I was at the 1989 Reunion tour in NYC and the band was just as good, as they were in the 70`s. The About time album was a very strong album. But when you stay apart for so long, the fan base falls apart. But the memories and old shows are amazing to listen to and watch. Leo Lyons, in my opinion is in the top 10, all time greatest bass players period.

Thank you for the video Leo, I think most of us who play in bands can understand exactly why you guys broke up. I've been in many bands over the years and most didn't last more than 3 or 4 years. I will say though that my first band which I started playing in went on from the age of 14 until I was about 23 so that by far the longest band I've ever been in, we would break up and reform though so we got breaks and other members came and went, in the end it was just me, the bassist and a guitarist who stuck it out all the way through. I kind of had "the grass is greener" attitude a lot of my life which I regret now.

I’m often amazed at the sheer lack of empathy people who have never been in bands show towards those who have. It’s not like it takes a great imaginative leap - we’ve all worked with people we don’t get on with (neither their fault nor ours but a case of toxic interpersonal chemistry), we’ve all experienced deteriorating personal relationships with people we once got on with. So, when I hear fans complaining about the ‘selfishness’ of their favourite band in breaking up or in ‘firing that great bassist/drummer/singer, guitarist’, I tend to roll my eyes. All fans have to do is listen to the music and go to the gigs. They don’t have to involve themselves in the often stressful business of creating the music and the friction with colleagues that often comes with it. Yes, friction can be creative and beneficial, but it can also be misery-making. When the debits exceed the benefits, it’s time to do something. Happy Easter, Leo! :)

You used to come into my store (Starvin' Marvin) around 89 to 93... honestly, Dave, I don't remember exactly when... but I didn't know who you were. I used to tell you about my band and my songwriting and you were so gracious and nice and encouraging. My bass player saw you coming out of the little store one day and came in and said to me, " Hey man, that's Dave Lyons from 10 Years After "... I was like, so ignorant, I said, " Who were they?" and he laughed so hard. You know, Leo, my name is David Lyon. I am now a songwriter in Nashville, since 93. Thank you for being such a kind hearted gentleman. By the way, I've since that time have purchased 10 Years After albums, recognize the songs and am a definite fan! 👍

A few months after hearing Ten Years After on the Woodstock album I started getting their albums ( 4 in the first 4 months and eventually 11 over the next few years) My first ever concert was TYA in spring 1971. Still one of my favourite bands. R.I.P. Alvin

I was so lucky to have seen TYA at Woodstock and then 2 more times at local colleges. You, "the Ox" and John Paul Jones are by far the 3 best ever Bass players to have ever played rock.

Thanks for the video! Me, I'm just one of those little dots out in the crowd. I think we all loved TYA . It's like anything in this world, we need a change, even if the going is good! We still have the memories, the reputation ect. I may be a "has been", but I would love to do it again, despite all the broken promises, the let downs, set backs and delays. "Contract breech fines" etc! It's great that you're still playing, it's good to see you still have that old 62 jazz bass! I hope you still enjoy band life.

Leo, hope you read these. Just a kid, 67 now... It was 1970 and friends and I stayed on a dorm room over night so we could get to the box office early. When they opened. After waiting for our chance to buy, we asked what the best seats left were. The reply was "I have orchestra pit, but they're not all in a row." So we bought the seats front row center at the berkeley community center. You came out with two fingers already having band aids on them. What a show, songs from cricklewood green before they had been released... a treat! The snare portion of summertime drum solo in it is fresh in my memory. It sounded like giant bugs, a swarm of locust. I'm going home, you and alvin getting it on... EPIC! The band aids did not last long by the way... And now a days that night's show's audio can be found on youtube. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKvRq62gjrNjebc I saw a video once where you explained something about how you used to play so hard which was very enlightening. I could go on about growing up at that age of fantastic music, how TYA was one of my all time favorites ect. You have heard it all, but I really mean it!

My mom was going to take us to Woodstock but we were living in Hawaii at the time. Then the movie came out and we went to the drive in and watched it. I was only 5 or 6 but when you guys came on the screen it changed my life. I think I was thinking what the fuck. Anyway. Thanks for the memories. Music is life.

I saw TYA shortly after Woodstock (circa 1970) in Providence, RI. They had Humble Pie opening for them so it was a great show, though i remember the crowd shouting for I'm Going Home almost from the start of their set. Finally, Alvin said "i guess this is all you came to hear" and finally played it. Fame and celebrity must be a bit annoying when all you want to do is play really good music. Woodstock brought out the neo-hippies, before that the scene was mostly underground to keep from getting busted. One Of These Days was my favorite. Let the Sky Fall was another. I'm a few years younger than you Leo and had my first Covid jab a few weeks ago so I guess you will have had yours also. Physically I felt a bit rough for a few days but psychologically I immediately felt more positive about the future and that there really is light at the end of this nightmarish tunnel. Hopefully the positive signs we are seeing will mean that the easing of lockdown will continue as scheduled and you and your fellow musicians will be out on the road again come summer / autumn. I wouldn't hold your breath regarding European gigs though.

I've had the jab but already had Covid in November. It's not much fun. I'm fine now but it knocks you back for a while. Re touring. Who knows. HSS have a European tour booked for October/November 2021 but that also depends on how the politicians feel about letting people hear music. Stay safe.

I've just found and subscribed to Leo's channel. What a gent he is too. I loved TYA in their heyday and I still do. I wonder if Woodstock did for them though as suggested in the video ? They were always fantastic live and the early albums captured their energy and dynamic stage presence. But after Woodstock perhaps they toured too much, as I always felt the albums weren't as good. Maybe more time in the studio would have meant better material. I wonder what Leo thinks ?

I knew all the guys in The Who. We did shows together and recorded at the same studio complex, often at the same time. I've been a witness to some of their recording sessions. I admired John's playing and the important part he played in the band. I often ran into John in club somewhere.

Been playing at bass guitar for 40+ years now. Appreciate your talent and dedication to music. You ever pick up and play a Rickenbacker bass? I've played with most out there and really like my Ric 4003. Got short fingers so the Fender Jazz was easier for reaching but the Ric works for me just fine. Thanks for your video.

Are you ever coming to the U.S.? I saw you guys at least 7 years ago and I always hear about visa problems. But 7 years worth?

Yes. To make it possible we need a run of dates to fall in line. The problem is that it takes 165 days (before Corona) to process a work visa. That means that all tour dates have to be finalised before you can apply. No further editions are allowed. Usually in the case of HSS we book lynch pin shows and fill in around. That's not possible to do for the States. Twice we've booked shows and been unable to complete because the visa process took too long. If we had a complete tour in place 165 days ahead of timer we'd be able to do it.

(Ric and Chick too, but it was more visible with you and Alvin) Was there no point ever after the breakup that you and Alvin felt like doing something together again? I did play bass on the title track of Alvin's 'Detroit Diesel ' record. I'd liked to have done a record of old fifties/sixties 'Rock and Roll' songs but sadly it never happened.
