It makes sense, making the cars smaller as less material used means more profit for Mattel as they can make more for the same price ,and as a bonus it fits on one of the worlds greatest car track platforms

Hi Leo, I think the reason for the smaller size and weight is cost saving. It reminds me of some biscuits that we grew up with are now smaller but same price. In my local supermarket there is a toy aisle and there are Mattel Lightning Mcqueens. Now, that supermarket is right by 3 neighborhoods and often a lot of parents come with their children. Well, the Cars 3 movie has begun to show in theaters and those Mattel Lightning Mcqueens haven't been touched. About 5 miles away from me there is a mall and in that mall is a Disney Store. When the Cars 3 movie debuted, A TSUNAMI of kids ran into the store to buy their Cars 3 toys. The Cars 3 Merchandise in the store was made and sold by Disney. The toy cars were contained in plastic see-through boxes that are actually pretty nice. I think more kids want to purchase Disney toys from Disney stores. They do not really care about Disney toys made and sold by other companies, like Mattel. And leo, like you said in the video about the Lightning Storm Lightning McQueen, "A toy like this doesn't hang on the pegs for very long."

the reason the wheelbase is different is because its a new mold mattel made a unique mold for each movie cars 1,2 and 3

Great video, very interesting on the differences, the bit I don't understand is why aren't all the brand new cars 3 versions using the new parts... maybe they did it for the sake of change, or just to confuse fans :p or they have something planned for the diecast so are testing it like what they did with Thomas adventures... also Leo there is a Gold Cars 3 lighting! Can't wait for the film, going to the premier in London to meet all the celebs!

I bought my son a bunch of cars 3 stuff for his bday! honestly some of the stuff I got I wanted to keep myself because of how cool some of it is and I want to build up my collection. when he outgrows it all I'll have a BUNCH! but I'm afraid the condition won't be very good or even if it's good they won't be perfect. I don't really have any collections or hobbies right now. if there is a way for us to chat more about this stuff, maybe exchanging certain stuff, trades or w/e it would be nice to have someone else that's so into it as I am. if not I understand. I love your videos and I watch them all and my son watches all your lightning McQueen/cars videos. I'll have to start getting two of everything. just gets expensive. I don't always have the money to get two of it all. Lightning McQueen has a change in design probably because the company doesn't have enough money from the selling their toys. A change in Lightning McQueen could possibly make Lightning McQueen easier to make in the toy factory. The company could also be saving money by changing his design. Or maybe, the company hasn't got enough of plastic and other materials to make the toy. So, they change the design to save materials. I know for a fact that plastic is made from oil and there is not a lot of oil for each and every toy company. Also, most toy companies change their toy designs over the years just to try and make the public like the toy better. Some just do it because they think a change is needed.

Edward Dieffenbach I can also theorize that they made it so that they lowered the quantity of metal being produced, and thus lowering atmospheric emissions, and so that we contaminate less. also I theorized that maby... just maby they did a change just to lower prizes and make it fit to the hw tracks because many customers were angry cause of that so on the next realease it gets more sales because most hw track collectioners be happy and buy the new cars 3 mcween just so that it fits on their own tracks. Thats complex politics but well. 3 grams will maby reduses $400 dollars, you know. Also Im not a politician or engineer.

It's just a new type of die-cast. Lionel NASCAR die-cast, changes there die-cast all of the time. In 2014 alone the change it least 3 times.

No, this Cars McQueen hasn't changed that much since 2006. It's far deeper than just a change. There are many styles of McQueen but to be totally changed has me asking many questions. You're dealing with a classic character toy here, and the hardcore fans don't like change.

I think the casting changes were done to save money and make a less expensive toy. But I feel like they were defiantly aware of what they were doing making sure McQueen fits on hot wheels track. I saw the film yesterday and thought it was good but interesting. I have a feeling the "Jackson Storm" diecast won't fit hot wheels track...

I don't know, something strange is that the Cars 3 Chester Whipple Filter is actually the classic Lightning Mcqueen form, but the Cars 3 Lightning Mcqueen and the rest of the Cars 3 Lightning Mcqueen variants are the classic Cars 3 Lightning Mcqueen (I'm kind of explaining it really confusingly, I just don't know how to explain this correctly.)

Maybe the company changes the toy design of Lightning Mcqueen because there's a different Cars movie in the franchise. Now, Cars 3 is definitely different from all the other Cars movies so, different movie, different design.

Your theory could be correct about the wheel base being changed, but not highly likely, but I don't think the skinnier diecast Lightning Mcqueen variant tells us anything really about the movie, even thought I've watched it, but at the point in the movie after he crashed, I think he got rebuilt, but maybe not in the same way, but AFTER he got rebuilt then he had the mud disguise.

I think McQueen different because in his crash he scraped his sides a lot and when he went to primer McQueen he then got that lightning to flame sides and 95 under head light. because he had a different paint job in the crash
