The two weaknesses of ERTL Thomas toys were the couplings and the small wheels, but the beauty of them outweighed the technical problems the toys had. Anyone who picks up an ERTL Thomas toy can see the beauty and attention to detail of the toy. The ERTL was more than just a toy, they have proven to be valuable collectables....something the Take N Plays will struggle to ever do.

I'm pretty sure the early TV series of Thomas and Friends inspired many people to do many things. I remember coming home from high school in the 80's and sitting down to watch those first series. My eyes were locked onto the screen. It was beautiful in story and model work. As we now know these early episodes are now classics. Will the CGI stuff ever earn this in time...I'm not banking on it.

yes, I agree, the early Thomas wooden toys would be fantastic to collect, tricky finding them in good condition

I know many people have a ton of respect for the Thomas wooden characters, as I have found out they are a good quality build and being wooden wooden tend to take a ton of knocking around The other nice factor is the size of the wooden trains, being bigger than the Take N Plays is an advantage, yet not too big for young children to enjoy

I totally agree with you on your little rant at the beginning. Series 12 was so nice to see. I loved seeing the models with a CGI face, I personally think that sticking with that would've been so much better. And yes CGI has ruined the true, realistic way of explosions and stuff like that. It is a shame that you've had to change drastically what you used to produce but if KZbin doesn't approve, you haven't got much choice .

Sadly I stopped doing Lego videos after some legal problems with my content. Maybe I need to make another Trackmaster Ultimate review and blow up something else All the kids want to see is stuff getting hammered with explosives...I'm sure of it.

Totally agree on the old model + CGI aspect, it was already perfect match. All in all, I would prefer they keep the storyline and characters close to the original concept back in the early episodes.

I don't engage with any style of online market or selling place, just too many scammers out there these days...gumtree has had some real problems with this of late When ever there is an opportunity to rip someone off the scammers will be there in droves, sadly thats part of the online life now

I love these videos-there's a lot of cool stuff in your mad bomber videos, and I'm always amazed by your ability to put so much time and effort into something just for KZbin. One can only wonder what the final film would have been like, just like Thomas and the magic railroad.

This subject is possibly worth a stand alone video, I do find them at local model railway fairs but you need to be quick to pick them up as they tend to sell pretty fast. Obviously they are on e-bay but I can't stand that site due to the huge numbers of rogue sellers there. Charity shops is the other place to find them as long as your in the right suburb or district. A place which had many young families in the mid 90's is a key to finding these models.

Ah the reason I first subscribed... but your personality and humour kept me faithful so I stuck around! ^^ The thing I like most about the model series' is the little goofs you get e.g. when someone derails in a shot and they keep it in. I do like the little references they've been putting in on the latest series though (and they brought back Duck! :3)

I love these videos where you show how the practical effects were done. I always learn so much from these. Any plans on doing another video like the old mad bomber? Not that it has to star Thomas or trains for that matter. Kind of like you used to make the cool openings for your old toy reviews. One that always stood out to me was the LEGO police chase. Would like to see another short video like that.

Thats a fantastic observation indeed...maybe via that you can work out who the mad bomber is..(and thats a big clue) The toys of today seem to stick to the new featured (popular) characters, not often does a minor character get to shine. The Thomas toys seem to be aimed at very young children who don't really investigate the accuracy in which a character is re-produced. The 2013 version of the smaller RC Thomas is a prime example. It's very different in design to the previous model.

Back then when I was much younger I wanted a Trackmaster version of Daisy (you know the Deiesl who carries passengers) who isn't a popular character at all. It's 2017 and they Still didn't make her yet....but they did Make Trackmaster Harvey So that's nice

I do like the models more than CGI. That is what IMO gave Thomas its charm. It felt more real and I liked the narrators better (Ringo Starr, George Carlin, Alec Baldwin, etc.) and the episodes were classics (Rusty and the Boulder, Cranky Bugs, Haunted Henry, etc.) Nostalgia to the max.

I just love behind the scenes videos like this. when I was really young, my parents had the Tomas VHS tapes from the 90's, and nothing was CGI in those "episodes". I am kind of bummed out because the Tomas the Tank that my 1year old brother is going to be watching is just going to be some fake CGI stuff that is just a shadow of what the old Tomas was like.

UK dub of the old series is boring, they use the same voice for all the engines. The US dub gives each character their own voice.

Mad Bomber 2 can be even cooler as a short series of videos sometimes having no connection. I just want to say you can make this a very cool thing just by telling a story about some project that was discarded and unfinished.

The whole CGI thing is what has me worried about the new Thunderbirds series. I know they said it would be live action and CGI, but that still sounds worrying. If they do what Thomas did, with CGI and the model, maybe. I hope it works out better than post-model Thomas series. Captain Scarlet kinda worked...sort of. But it was not a scratch on the original :)

I would collect the early ERTL toys, such as the mumbo-jumbo pull-backs (only thomas and percy where made), the plastic remote controll ERTL Thomas (just a plastic version of the big pull-back Thomas but then remote-controll) And also the first Thomas's with plastic face and also the paper face's! And let's not forget the paper faced ERTL miniatures!

KZbin is weird, you have some channels which show you deadly slingshots, others which show you guns with illegal ammunition and weapons and others which show you dangerous acts with microwaves and food blenders yet these videos are not flagged. If you put up a video explaining a single aspect of pyrotechnics it will be flagged and you will be warned about the community guidelines here on youtube. Break the guidelines enough times and loose your channel. The double standards here are amazing

I wasn't born yet but I do have some Thomas VHS tapes that I loved as a kid. I don't have the old ones that say "Shining Time Station" because again I wasn't born yet. Most of my tapes were narrated by George Carolin but one day I got some tapes narrated by Michal Brandon, and as a kid I hated those episodes. I barely watched them, they were horrible! And now CGI? why scrap the model series? Sure I'll watch it for a new engine or movie but now fans are returning the show to it's former glory!
