I'm so grateful I got to see him perform twice in the 1980s at the most perfect small venue. Once with just a tuba player, once with a piano player. I was so sad when he passed, for his family and for all of us devoted fans. This is one of my favorite songs of his.

Saw him once 50 years ago at Hampshire College when he brought a baseball bat and leaned it against the piano bench he sat on. He never referred to it in any way for the entire performance but we knew why.

I'm late to the comment, but why? Rough crowd? Hampshire lost a baseball game?

I love Da Redbone.... but I can only hope that as PS said every generation sends a hero up the pop charts. Just don't forget about the greats of the past. There are so many great songwriters, musicians, singers artists of the past. If we are equally blessed, we have a lot to look forward to!

I miss this man's wonderful music so much. I had the distinct pleasure of hearing him on several occasions live. He was always so entertaining and relaxed to say the least. Just about the mellowest fellow I have ever met. Songs like The One Rose That's left in my heart or Moonlight Bay or Prairie Lullaby speak to that mellowness, but than he has a whole bunch of very uplifting songs as well. We love you Leon. Until we meet again.

This gives such a warm, pleasantly melancholic feel. It doesn't hurt that the interpretation is nonchalantly virtuoso. Such impossible apparent relaxation, thinly disguising elegant yet cutting heartache.

Warm memories of my Grandfather and his music come back listening to Leon. My Grandfather played guitar for a dance band. He would play guitar and sing these type of songs.

I don't think Leon Redbone is a performer. I think that's why he's so great. He doesn't put on a performance for YOU. He plays, 'plays' for himself, and listens and enjoys as he does it. He lets you see/hear that. There's no way he's 'in your face'. Just think about it. 99% of performers everywhere are putting something on show for us. Doing a 'sell'. Leon ain't.
