Leon's mecha is from loss tech, create by a loss civilization super-AI spaceship. this super-AI spaceship is the one develop a robot for him to use but chonky robot is so out of norm, they end up get laugh as common people thought it will be too slow. another fun fact is the super-AI spaceship doted on his creation way too much and he will piss over his praise creation bring laugh at.

if you ask me, its good that Leon put them on their places because on the marie route: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4 of them died eerily similar on how they were defeated: Greg got killed by Gilbert because of the armor difference Chris got killed by Nicks who bombareded him with artillery because he kept saying that he was a sword saint. Brad got killed when he tried to be dramatic as possible to save Olivia Jilk got killed when he was betrayed by the saint by making his cockpit explode.

Marie made events happen too fast and ruined the character arcs of those 5. Something they continue to suffer super deep into the Light Novels as well. We're talking, these characters being massively useless until like 6 books in and after the third story arc. What is even worse is that these characters DEMANDED the duel. They thought they were just going to curb stomp Angie and it would "end her interferance". Essentially, they were bullying her and took her emotional outburst seriously (a true noble would've excused her outburst and offered her an explanation, rather than just accept the duel she couldn't win). Leon, seeing this, decided that the 5 needed to be bullied in return, and in doing so, he actually acted like a true noble. Putting the spoiled brats in their place at great expense to his own reputation (which is why he gets so much backing from Angie's family as well as Queen Mylene). Leon's original intent in obtaining Luxion was just to "live out his days in peace" and have the means to "survive the coming war". Marie screwed all that up. Marie made him care about Angie and how she was being treated. Marie showed Leon how doomed the country was because the 5 Idiots fell in love with her. It's interesting that most of the problems Leon faces keep coming back to Marie, and him cleaning up after her and supporting her. Even in the second arc where Leon goes to study abroad in a different country, it's Marie and her 5 idiots tagging along that rope him into those events too. They pick a fight with the local nobility, get trounced, and Leon intervenes. From that point on, he's tied to the events and the protagonist of the second game. Leon rarely creates "problems for himself" other than just trying to fix Marie's mistakes.

It’s explained in the first episode that the company that made the game usually makes action/combat games which is why the game was so bad and had out of place things like dark souls level difficulty combat and a badly designed world/characters. Basically the creators added in mechs because they wanted to add combat into the otome game.

I gave it a D. It was much funnier in the manga and LN, you could feel the savagery from each insult just by reading them and they skipped few of them. And the animation is lacking, another wasted potential bites the dust

Agree with you. There were many good scenes which were cut off. I don't like the art style too. Except Leon and his friends, all other characters have these weird eyes which give the impression that they will cry at any moment. Also, their face is too broad. I'm sure this was maybe with the attention to make fun of the Otome-Flirt-Scenes, however, it ruins too much. I wished they had adapt the novel draw style which looks far more pretty.

Notice how the prince and the subordinates have different hair colors. Look at Leon and some of his classmates around his class(in terms of social classes) they have average hair colors with similar hair cuts, maybe just average at best. Leon is supposed to look generic due to being reincarnated into a side character however he tends to break that due to how the story of the game goes. So unlike other isekai protagonists with generic designs, his is intentional with good reasons supporting it and he isn't op. His armor is just a bulky suit with a shovel

I always see this kind of mecha fights non-sense because as some of you know why even use a "mecha sword"? guns and other explosives that I can understand, but to bring a Sword to a fight when you know metal doesn't have a flesh to rend that's just stupid. I do hope future mecha genre would add "frequency blade" just like in metal gear or star wars sabers if they want a melee fight scenes that would be much more interesting.
