The fact that some people know acting titan Gary Oldman only as "that guy from the Batman movies" hurts my soul. 😂 Oldman received a Best Actor Oscar in 2017 and was nominated in 2011 and 2020. He played Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, Lee Harvey Oswald in JFK, President Truman in Oppenheimer, Sirius Black in Harry Potter, Zorg in the Fifth Element, Dracula in... well, Dracula, he's been in True Romance, Air Force One, Hannibal, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Mank, and also in 2 episodes of Friends ... one of the most famous actors on the planet.

Glad you liked the directing. The Professional was directed by Luc Besson, who also directed La Femme Nikita (and the American remake Point of No Return), The Fifth Element, Taxi, Kiss of the Dragon, The Transporter movies, the Taken movies, Valerian, Unleashed, Ong Bak, Columbiana, Lucy, A Monster in Paris, and many many more. The guy's work is all over the place and his reputation is disturbing, but he has made many fantastic films and a few stylistic masterpieces, including this one. The flash of light when Leon is shot still gives me chills. He also directed many of Gary Oldman's most eccentric performances.

The EVERYYYOOONNNEEEE part was improvised. He was suposed to just to repeat everyone again quietly. However, Oldman just yelled it quite surprisingly and ended up legitimately scaring the other actor. A real life jumpscare, lol.

@Ernwaldo

In more recent years Natalie Portman has voiced her displeasure with how she was portrayed in this film, in retrospect. So, unlikely she will do a “sequel.” But maybe with the correct script & director??? On that note, I’ve read that Luc Besson & a writing partner had been working on a script about an adult Mathilda as an assassin. Besson had a falling out with executives at Gaumont & left. Gaumont retained the rights to the script. Besson (& others?) reworked the script about a Brazilian girl who witnesses her parents’s murders & grows up to be an assassin. That film is *Columbiana* (2011) & stars Zoe Saldana. Different director though.

Hi! It was one of the recent movie I've proposed, because I though you might try a 90s action movie, which is thanks to the director Luc Besson, more 'european-like'. I was hesitant, I have to admit, given some scenes which are disturbing. Still La Femme Nikita, which I believe to be a more interesting, European action film would require subtitles and that makes it slightly more difficult to follow for people watching your reaction movies. Plus I knew Mikey would like that Natalie Portman is here and she is simply excellent in 'Leon'. In my opinion the movie is like an exaggerated US action movie made by a foreigner who tries to make his version of a US action flick, so it could be said 'Leon" has some similarities with for example.... 'Samurai Cop'. The difference is of course that 'Leon' is very well made, while 'Samurai Cop'... I still hope you will watch it one day... When it comes to the acting. Notice how Jean Reno (Leon) made his character a bit... slow so that the relationship with a traumatised teenager is strange, but not creepy. Plus scenes with Gary Oldman are just somehow so surreal and over the top. Take care!

If you look into it, it's obvious the director intentionally put weird stuff in this movie. But I can separate the art from the artist, and see Leon and Mathilda's relationship as father-daughter. So it's still one of my favorite movies of all time.

I dunno, I watched the full director's cut version and was NOT a fan. Some of the extra scenes are nice, but it's pacing is awful, the cut scenes are obviously of much lower quality than the rest, and they take the lolita aspect of the film way too far imo. (which also kind of muddles the positive and healthy relationship they have) Top that with the director having questionable relationships with minors, I think I prefer this version better. Or at least not the director's cut.
@kevindean0000

@@732ReviewCrew Too bad. The Version Integrale (extended cut) is approximately 26 minutes longer. So, heads up, if you ever do The Abyss, be sure it's the Special Edition, it's around 28 minutes longer and adds back the point of the whole movie. I mention this one since people often choose the wrong one there too.

@@lockekappa500 I love how in the midst of all the violence, the murders, the slaughter of Mathilda's family, including her 4yo brother, and being made to sympathize with a killer who teach a little girl how to kill, it's the pseudo love story that bothers you. I think Matilda doesn’t have any idea how to have any kind of relationship with an adult other than what she’s seen on TV and from her stepmom and step sister (in the beginning). I also saw that part of her character as a way of feeling in control of her life. Still gross and super sad though.
