I was fascinated, I was fascinated, I was fascinated. Spectacular, I had never heard that interpretation. The best of all, unsurpassable. I think the singer herself cannot surpass herself. That was phenomenal, extraordinary.

Saw her in SF couple years ago. Had to go after seeing her and hearing that beautiful voice. Great show. After she signed autographs and signed my CD. Told her she sounded like an angel sent from heaven. Great hearing her laugh. Definitely had a crush. Snapped out of it but still a lifelong fan. Hope she comes around again.

The greatest lyrics by Leonard Cohen and the meaning behind them which I only was made aware very recently make this interpretation by Busia even greater.

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove Dance me to the end of love Dance me to the end of love Oh, let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon Show me slowly what I only know the limits of Dance me to the end of love Dance me to the end of love Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above Dance me to the end of love Dance me to the end of love Dance me to the children who are asking to be born Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn Dance me to the end of love Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove Dance me to the end of love Dance me to the end of love Dance me to the end of love

I think when you are aware of the inspiration of the song this chirpy version is not the perfect fit
@mz4kids3 жыл бұрын
@@thedolphin5428 I am somewhat unsure if your remark is in reply to my comment. Kindly clarify to which comment you are referring and how in either case why the writers' sanity is questioned.
@thedolphin54283 жыл бұрын
@ Sammy Hallam You're welcome to your musical opinion but not to make obviously insane comments. Saying that this karaoke-level cover "eclipses" Leonard Cohen's version of his own song is nothing short of lunacy. @Murry I agree entirely with your comment. Way too "chirpy"! I get so sick of idiots like Sammy who proffer their opinion and taste as some great truism when blatantly untrue. They should be told to shut up and think before typing.
@mz4kids3 жыл бұрын
@@thedolphin5428 I see. You might know that the song's basis was the musicians that played music as the inmates arriving at Auschwitz were sent to the gas chambers. The story, unconfirmed, is that a violin player spotted his wife being marched to the gas chambers, and he joined her, playing his violin all the while..My only comment was about the cover being a bit too joyful given the source. I thought my comment was fair and not insulting. I enjoy Basia very much, but in this case, I cannot agree it is superior to Leonard Cohens'. Your use of the term "insane" seems inappropriate, and adding"obviously." does not support your position.
@thedolphin54283 жыл бұрын
@@mz4kids Yes, I was fully aware of the song's derivation, and hence I agreed with your *very mild* criticism of the OP. Perhaps you should have educated the OP as to why their comment was ignorant and tasteless. Chirpy was a massive understatement! Murry, your politeness to others is admirable. My abrasiveness may not be, but I don't care. And imho, obviousness of stupidity and idiocy and egoistic opinion is not some special skill to be made politely. My comments here make no bearing on Basia's other performances or style but were only about the OP.
