I don't know who this guy is, but he does a great version of this song, all credit to the school choir singing in French. Many Dutch people also reisted the Nazis, the song has a universal appeal it's about oppossing tyranny.

Such a spirit... he seems to really understand the meaning and nuances within the song and brings life experience to it. And look at all those beautiful children with their exquisite voices in chorus; and learning Leonard's songs at such an early age. Great musicianship and women back-up singers, too. [I had to break up my comment into three, separate ones.]

YEs the tribute is a true love of Cohen and his work as a singer/Songwriter, The genre from those years when songs meant something and concerts were still cheap enough to get into. seems money rules the world these days, not sure if the singers wanted it to be his way, Haunting beautifull words and melodies.. yes a true tribute to a great singer/songwriter

Super video: la chorale est trop bonne, le chanteur a une voix superbe mais pourquoi chante t-il une magnifique chanson si déchirante avec autant de désinvolture?
@emmanueldidier3213 жыл бұрын
Pas la desinvolture mais le detachement emotionnel du survivant?
That's so beautiful and ingenious song, and this interesting is very good, indeed I like it. But Cohen is better.

Beautiful, and prism1951 you're exactly right, comparisons are odious. also they're singing in French but Dutch people are generally multi lingual as I learned when I lived in Utrecht 77-79 so your wife could likely translate.

When they poured across the border I was cautioned to surrender This I could not do I took my gun and vanished. I have changed my name so often I've lost my wife and children But I have many friends And some of them are with me An old woman gave us shelter Kept us hidden in the garret Then the soldiers came She died without a whisper There were three of us this morning I'm the only one this evening But I must go on The frontiers are my prison Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing Through the graves the wind is blowing Freedom soon will come Then we'll come from the shadows Les Allemands étaient chez moi Ils me dirent, "résigne toi" Mais je n'ai pas peur J'ai repris mon âme J'ai changé cent fois de nom J'ai perdu femme et enfants Mais j'ai tant d'amis J'ai la France entière Un vieil homme dans un grenier Pour la nuit nous a caché Les Allemands l'ont pris Il est mort sans surprise Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing Through the graves the wind is blowing Freedom soon will come Then we'll come from the shadows

original russian text by Anna Marly from 1942. next year it was rewritten in french
