HEY STEVE THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT!! I just clicked on the link to your website and it says NOTICE: This domain name expired on 12/24/2019 and is pending renewal or deletion. You might want to check with GoDaddy right away. Great video as usual. I was already subscribed to Leonard French but until now I didn't really know what kind of law he practiced. Thanks for the enlightenment.

I have occasionally watched Mr. French's channel when it comes up (usually as "people who watch Lehto's Law also watch") and the subject seems like it could be interesting. He does pretty good. But I'm subscibed to your channel, one of about 7 or 8 total, because even if the subject is mundane, you make it interesting, entertaining and frequently hilarious. Thanks for frequently making my day a little better. Have a great new year.

1988 had a alaska cop claim he could arrest me for not having an ID, I was not driving. I've also had a cop claim he could arrest me because I was physically unable to do a field sobriety test. Yes I'm going to be able to walk a straight line with leg in a cast and neck brace on, I was fortunate that another officer stopped that had some common sense.

Just FYI, what Leonard calls "harbormaster" is actually a harbor pilot. There are other sorts of marine pilots, e.g. for English Channel. Some pilots are qualified for both, such as English Channel and River Scheldt (Antwerp approaches).

Hi Steve. A regular scheduled interview with him every two to four weeks would work well. There is plenty of internet law and general topics to talk about. That still gives the working man time in the evening to catch your regular videos and watch live on the weekend. But beware! He might get jealous if he finds out that you, have a robot Lady! Later. Jpol.

Regarding Leonard French's recommendation on "buying an OSI Layer-3 aware switch" (35:02): a layer-3 switch handles _routing,_ usually not particularly well, and is almost certainly *not* suitable for packet inspection. I think a DPI-capable *router* would be a much more appropriate. :) Not to be pedantic, but if you're going to drop packets at the protocol level, using the right tool for the job is not only prudent because of the difference in actual effectiveness, it can save you a lot of money too.
@duggerd
@duggerd 4 жыл бұрын
A NGFW (Next Generation FireWall) is the current term for protocol aware firewall appliances. You _could_ use a L3 switch (or just do this at your edge router/firewall) and use ACLs to only allow UDP/53, TCP/80, TCP/443, etc but that's not 100% effective and would be a pain to manage.
@disenfranchisedliberal3073
@disenfranchisedliberal3073 4 жыл бұрын
@@duggerd Yep. Most BT clients for the last decade can easily evade L3 filters with the default settings, and even some L7 filters (aka NGFW). It can be blocked, but it's not as straightforward as with some other protocols. Probably close to impossible with an L3 _switch_ without also making your entire network unusable. That said, at least something with reasonably well implemented DPI could block or at least monitor a lot of it, so you might be able to call it due diligence.

Your definition of a harbourmaster is actually that of a “Pilot or Harbour Pilot”. The Harbourmaster sits in an office and oversees the assignation of anchoring points, docking, lading, refuelling and departures from port as well as all necessary port charges. He can prevent your ship from leaving harbour should your account be in arrears.

I used to use Bit Torrent. Don't know if they still do this, but they did have where you could pay them for movies and the like, and they paid out the royalties to the copyright owner. I used them to primarily for downloading Linux and freeware stuff. The idea behind it sounds good on paper, however, far too many people use it for illegal things, and there is also if someone has a virus on their computer, well now you got the virus, so I avoid those types of services.

Steve, your driver's license argument is valid, however I ask whether a similar provision to my Australian state of New South Wales exists anywhere in the USA. That is that in a life threatening situation neither the license or vehicle registration matters, I.E. in our current bushfire crisis if it is drive-able it gets put to work, if you can drive even suspended out you go.
