Individual Thought Patterns is kind of underrated in the Death catalog. It easily gets overshadowed by both its younger and older brothers. Mentally Blind is a perfect example of a great track that people often neglect for Symbolic, Zombie Ritual, Pull the Plug, Suicide Machine and so on. Props to you for giving the piece its due.

Control Denied was not only a side project, it was the band Chuck meant to continue with, playing 'not so heavy/death metal' stuff with another vocalist, Death's former bassis Steve Di Giorgio and Death's final line-up drummer and guitarist. I read somewhere that indeed some music from 'The Sound of Perseverance' was originally written for Control Denied.

The abrupt 180° changes in good metal is one of the most satisfying parts of it all, pop songs are like a kiddy "rollercoaster" ride, music that focuses on skill and technical creativity and breaking anticipation is what makes it feel so fun to not have expected what you're gonna hear next, all within the confines of understanding what people mean when they say a lot of metal sounds the same. Technical musicians in metal remind me so much of the intricate wordsmithing and fast frantic precise rhythmic flows rappers have, it feels like I love hip hop artists like Busta Rhymes and Tech N9ne and Eminem and jazz bands like Snarky Puppy and anything fast and technical for the same reasons I love metal so much, fast technical music for music-heads is just so satisfying to me. I appreciate the intense musical effort and ride of controlled chaos.

Great idea to underline the brilliance of the riffs. 1000000 bands, 999999 derivative, to the point of being unrecognizable, a lot of bands hide behind "sound". SOPerseverance "SPEAKS" through music, even if you play it with a banjo. that's composition, that's music, speaking with notes. this is so special , so fresh, so expressive. I was privileged to be a young metalhead when this came out, good job man, let the world know how good this is.

one thing i never hear schulldiner fans point out is his choice of bassists was always top notch too. its really hard to match up with unorthodox playing styles.

I have never been a massive fan of Death but my god the guitar work is beautiful. Chuck was an amazing writer who had influenced many guitarists. May his memory live on forever.

Chuck only had the wildest, craziest musicians with him - Chris Reifert, Steve DiGiorgio, Terry Butler, Bill Andrews, Sean Reinert, Paul Masvidal, Gene Hoglan, Andy LaRocque, Bobby Koelble's only metal appearance.... You can just google the bands the other members of Death were involved in and you will learn SO much about how extreme metal became a thing.

@@MetgadethFan17 Sadus is a classic band that he got famous for playing in. He then payued for a whole bunch of other bands, including Charred Walls of The Damned with ex-Death drummer Richard Christy (Sound of perseverance drummer, another total killer drummer).

@@rahulmenon4357 gotcha, I’ve always liked the drums on The Sound Of Perseverance, so that’s pretty cool. I’ve also been told to check out Control Denied and Cynic.
