I recommend Trujillo Honduras. It's right across from Roatan. Mansions going up like crazy.

Hello. The name of the island is pronounced Row-Tan. It’s constantly pronounced incorrectly by travelers. My family is born and raise and I constantly hear the name said incorrectly.

Many years ago it belonged to England, so today the language is English and Spanish.

Roatan NEVER belongs to England. Roatan and the other Islands were reached by Cristobal Colon ( aka Columbus) in 1502. Since then, the islands and the main land were occupied by the Spanish crown. When the Spaniards were conquering and building towns in mainland Honduras, pirates from England, Holland and France show up on the islands over 150 years later after the Spaniards. The English pirates took over Roatan and more English from Jamaica growth to a population of about 10,000. But by 1859 by Spanish and US pressure, the English were forced TO RETURN the islands to Honduras. THEY NEVER WERE LEGALLY English territory. Few British remained, and today some islanders are descendant of those British holding Honduran nationality. That explain the presence of the English language all over. The official name of the area is ISLAS DE LA BAHIA, and are the 18th Department ( State) of Honduras since 1856.

Another woke ignorant. All the animals in Roatan parks are RESCUE animals, they live well because those loving people take good care of them. Even the trained dolphins are FREE to go anywhere, but they return to the area because they are feed well by the Resort that host them.

Just got done with a cruise where one destination was the roaton. Not a beautiful place except for destinations. It was actually sad to drive through. Learned that there is no retirement. No paid healthcare. Barely any healthcare. People make between $100-$300 a month. Lawyers make about $1500. Great loving people. Government is a prime example as a socialist country. Forced 100% vaccinations.
@Shaliaj73 ай бұрын
Forced 100% vaccinations??? Are you talking about the USA under biden? Hondurans making $ 300 a month? Some people make that money, but Honduras is NOT the United States and the cost of living in Honduras is 60/70% LESS that the US. Any profesional easy make more than $ 1500 a month. And many business people make 10, 20, 40 K a month, even more. About " health insurance" this northamerican concept is not widely used. IN HONDURAS AND ALL HISPANIC AMERICA, THE GOVERMENT PAY ALL MEDICAL SERVICES AND UNIVERSITY EDUCATION ( with fees in some cases) you make a mistake to compare a rich developed country, with one in process of developing.
