Enjoyed the video, music and a glimpse of Australia. I have a 100 lb. Leon {Mr. Beezer) and a large black German Shepherd (Blackie88). They both love the water and swim like fish. Here in Pennsylvania USA we usually get a lot of snow and they love that too. Good days to have a thick fur coat!

I've got one myself, we're going to breed with her. I once had three, the other two became 10 and 9 years old. I LOVE leonbergers!

Thank you so much for sharing this amazing video! I just love it. My leonberger Casper passed away last year 2013. He was 11 years old. Always happy and playful. He was a true companion. Many hugs from Sweden.

They are gorgeous. I never realised the Leonberger tail curled quite so much. We're looking at a Leo for our next dog to go with akita & eurasier, so translation problems between curly tail & straight tail dog was on the list of questions.

Leos don't get the really thick coats here in Australia that they get when living in the ice and snow. I never walk mine in the heat of Summer only early morning or late night when cooler. Day time summer walks usaly include swimming ;)) Keeping the coats well groomed helps to keep them cool as well

The Leos here in Sydney Australia tend to moult a lot.. the length of the coat will depend on the parents but the undercoat tends to shed all year round in warm climates. Male Leos only grow the Ruff or Mane.. in Cold countrys the coat seems to get longer and thinker, but they moult out in the warmer regions.. I've found that as long as you keep them well groomed the warm weather dose not bother them.. although importing a dog used to the cold will take a while to adjust.

Leos are good and are Gentle with other dogs. Sometimes young pups can be rough untill they learn manners, so the owner would have to make sure that the Pup knows to be gentle around them and also would need to protect the older dogs if needed... more from being steped on although most Leos are very careful where they put there feet when little dogs are around. I'm also a Groomer and the main reason I have Leos is that they are so good with other dogs in the salon. Easier to groom than Newf

Australia is not that bad... as long as you don't go too deep and watch out for the white pointer sharks.. lol The Dogs tend to only play in the surf.. I would be worried if they swam out too far.. I live in NSW and we don't have the Box Jelly fish or the Crocodiles that they have further up North in Queensland. The Beach is far Safer than the bush where you have to worry about the Snakes and Ticks. :(

Yeah I hear ya, your Leonbergers are beautiful btw, I always imagined the locals would know all about where to go and not to go when it came to living down there, specially considering all the hype the American media gives the Australian wildlife, thinking about the funnuelweb, the box jelly, and even the platypus, I´d just imagine you guys would be on a 24/7 poison control, I lived in Chile for a while and we have the black widow and the corner spider here, and we where always weary of them...

YEA! Someone that answers! (Gorgeous muscle in those dogs, congrats!). I have a question. I'm a groomer and one of my clients is ready for another dog. They have 2 geriatric dogs, one Cairn, one Doxy. Are Leo's good with geriatric dogs? My client wants either a Leo or a Newfie. I'd love a Leo for a change! We know Newfies are easy with everything and everyone. Are Leo's? (Yes, training will take place or I won't accept the dog, lol)

I've explained very carefully (lol) to her exactly what it means to "blow coat" and I've assured her that this would be the case once, if not twice a year, with the normal shedding occurring throughout the year. She laughed and said "it's okay, I have a groomer". She's going to bring the dog in every other week to control shedding (yea, getting a rake n vac). Some breeds have no smell to speak of, is the Leo one of those? Can I just deshed like a husky? What about chlorine, they have a pool.

I posed a question already, but just ran up on this. We're in Florida, a sub tropical climate. Would the coats grow more like a Tibetan Mastiff than the full coat here? Flat(ish) with the Elizabethan Ruff?

The Curly tail is a Fault in the breed although both of my girls curl there tails when very happy such as in this video... but in the show ring the tails sit down and are straight down where they are ment to be.. although on the run the tails will lightly curl.. A straight tail is Ideal for a Leonberger. but happy temperment is more important! :)

when you take them to the beach or when you go to the beach yourself, do you have to take any precautionary measures? I hear that Australia has some very nasty creatures swimming around in its waters?
