While there are several wonderful performances of this concerto online, it never really did much for me until I heard Kavakos’ performance. He made me fall in love with the piece.

For me this is the best ending I have ever heard for this concerto. I am talking about the last 2 chords. Others play a ritardando or just a bit of tenuto. It should be played like here. A tempo. I think Beethoven would have liked it like this!

I like Mr Kavakos ( he is compatriot etc) but I think even the soloists should wear a tux like the rest of the orchestra. I understand they are the chorus and soloist is the voice but this looks like a rehearsal. At least bring your own suit. In the old days Kavakos used to wear a suit to perform. He was suited for his monumental Paganini performances in Greece.

Leonidas is a brilliant violinist. Too bad he never developed a unique sound. He can be confused with Khachatryan or Mutter or Hahn or Garrett or Kennedy or Hadelich or Repin or Vengerov or a bunch of others.

@Liqu1d16 If you have a little time, listen to Gitlis and Heifetz for a bit. As far as my ears can discern, they are the only two players in the history of fiddle playing (after 1900) that can absolutely be distinguished from everyone else because of their sound and their style. There must be at least thirty very fantastic violinists out there who match their technical skills but as far as sound and style, Heifetz and Gitlis are unique. When they play, I don't hear Beethoven through Heifetz or Bach through Gitlis, I hear Heifetz through Beethoven and Gitlis through Bach. They make themselves equal to the composers. I think that's rather special.
