Love a good delay. You covered a bit of the multi-delay in your video for dialing in a Mark series on the Axe3. It was for the lead scene and I believe there was a Timmons reference when dialing in its settings. It was glorious and it is my favorite “go to” lead sound... so far.

Great video as always man. Thanks for the continued and detailed walk through the Fractal. Out of curiosity, do you find yourself using the effects on the Ax Fx as an outboard FX unit when recording as well? I find the effects on par with many of the old Eventide units of the past, and great for use on just about any source. Also, do you tend to record your guitar dry and add effects later during the mix process, or wet on the original signal?

Great questions Brian. I wonder if the Axe will allow you to track wet and dry separately. Would the Axe let you run separate chains, a nice dry chain to the output, and then a separate chain for the wet effects? I imagine you would take a stereo output into the interface and then use the interface out to return to the Axe for the 2nd Effects chain.

@@Eventual420 Yes, it will allow multiple chains on the grid, and there are multiple options regarding that. You can create multiple signal chains based on one or multiple inputs, and route them independently, adding whichever blocks you want to each, to any of the outputs. You're really only limited to the CPU power of the unit and how many blocks each amp/cab/effect will allow. On the Axe Fx 2 you only have two analogue inputs and stereo outputs and the SPDIF/AES/USB digital inputs and outputs. On the Axe Fx 3 you have 4 stereo analogue inputs/outputs and the same digital inputs and outputs as the 2. Another handy thing is using one of the output/input pairs for reamping when recording. That's what I do routinely when recording with the Fractal, just for future options in tone. "Would the Axe let you run separate chains, a nice dry chain to the output, and then a separate chain for the wet effects? I imagine you would take a stereo output into the interface and then use the interface out to return to the Axe for the 2nd Effects chain." So if I'm understanding correctly, you just want to run one guitar signal, through two chains (one dry, one wet) and route those out of two separate outputs, right? If that's the case, yes, you can do that just fine inside the unit. You would just split the signal from the input block into two separate chains and route each to a different output. Then you would just leave one blank with empty blocks (shunts) if you wanted a dry signal, and the other you would load up with whatever effects you wanted to. Or if you wanted the same amp on both chains but wanted effects on one and dry on the other, you would split the signal on the grid after the cab block. The only thing you would need to loop out and back to the Fractal for would be for a reamp situation.

It's awesome as a standalone piece of gear. I really like the EL-Foil opto comp on snares and the South Church and London Plate Reverbs. Running a drum room through a Dual Rectifier is pretty fun too :D

Curious how the 2290 delays sound. Those units were sonically rich, with built in modulation. Always intrigued by your Axe videos, the Axe FX III, such a powerful unit with loads of great preamp sounds and an amazing collection of specialty effects, priced well within reason. It is hard to avoid this unit. Thanks for all the great details. Just when I was low on GAS, full tank with these vids.

Leon, I have an idea for your next Axe Fx video: Tapped delays in the style of Brian May (check out Brighton Rock @ 3:20). 60,000/BPM =delay in milliseconds times 2 for 2 beats or 4 for 4 beats, no decay, 2 or 3 taps, mix 50%. I saw Dr. May in 1976 from second row (I'm old) and was blown away by what he did with his three Echoplexs and my Axe Fx makes it so easy and fun.

Brighton Rock, one of the reasons I picked up the guitar. Didn't see Queen until the Hot Space tour, 14 row. The Get Down Make Love, solo break , when everyone left the stage except May. Mind blowing.

Hello, I have a question, how did you set up your A/O Input levels, I set it around 10 %, above this lvl I can see red light on input meter :) is this normal to have so low input lvl A/O?
@LeonTodd
@LeonTodd 5 жыл бұрын
What guitar are you playing? Most of my guitars are moderate to low output and i have it set to 20%. 10% would seem normal if you're using hotter pickups.
