Obviously, her voice, which I could describe with dozens of adjectives - huge, dusky, silky, exquisite, molten, smoky, divine - is the primary indicator of her musical genius. But her musical genius can also be heard in smaller nuances of her interpretations of various roles. One such example is found right here. Listen to her “Amore, amore mio” at 0:11, particularly the second "amore". Listen to how she really doesn't even sing it; she instead almost groans it, her voice thick with agony. It becomes a murmur. With this one small artistic choice, she renders this scene even more heartrending. Price is a truly extraordinary woman, a goddess. Bravissima diva!

Classical singers are trained to project the sound without any amplification. Occasionally, when singing in large arenas, they may have a mic, generally placed at a distance.

great voice but I wonder what the English speakers would think of someone singing English like Price sings Italian...apart from a few important words she emotes, she doesn't seem to know how to pronounce, phrase or make sense of the Italian language.

@metropolitan1966 Price´s hopeless phrasing and diction has nothing to do with her race. Joan Sutherland was even worse. And on the other hand, Grist, Arroyo, Bumbry and Verrett, to name a few other black singers, had much better diction and phrasing than Price. She just didn't seem to care about it. All she wanted was to make round, boring sounds. If you don't agree, that's fine, but don't call me racist..
@Orfeus804 жыл бұрын
@metropolitan1966 you're right about Verrett, hers wasn't great, but I did only say "much better than Price". Lol. I do like Price for American music, she knew how to sing that. But she got away with her crappy Italian because of her voice, just like Joan Sutherland.
