A prominent NYC voice teacher once said that this world would be a much better place if people would listen to Leontyne Price every morning. Couldn't agree more!

Price had three careers simultaneously: recitalist (exemplary here in her fabulously beautiful vocalism), concert, and Opera Diva, all of which witnesses to her singular Assoluta status as the Stradivarius of Singers. I just love her!

Price obviously took her Salzburg programming very seriously. All of the Salzburg programs are impressive for not only their sophistication and breadth, but in making sure to include important touchstones of the song literature. I especially love this and the 1975 recital.

Good Grief! The ease with which she sings "Die Allmacht!" She makes it sound so casual and intimate, without losing any of the gravity and import. Amazing! I feel like the concert format suits Price best, especially the song recital.

Very True .... She had originally intended to be a recitalist: Then she had several encounters with Ljuba Wellitsch at the Met, when still a student at Juilliard. Are you familiar with her early operatic triumphs (live) ...... They were spell binding because of their ease, nuance, brilliance and above all a voice like none other dedicated to the composer's intent ........

Great program but if I'm being honest the best part of any Price recital is the encores! It's also when the audience goes wild. It's always the same handful of numbers, but who cares. Thanks for this!

Do you also have the group of American songs that was on the program between Duparc and the Spirituals? Or has it not been sung in the end?

I heard those American songs from this recital on a BBC broadcast in 1978, broken out separately as a group, so she definitely sang them, but Im not sure if they were included in the Austrian radio broadcast, which this seems to be. Perhaps the poster would answer! ;-)
