@@LohengrinOI’ve listened to countless live recordings of hers, and this is just not true. Not sure what you’ve listened to. People who heard her live also attest to how easily she was heard in the house. So many live recordings of hers display her soaring over huge orchestration. Not sure why you post her if you don’t like her. And criticize her when people are complimenting singing on a video you posted. Doesn’t make sense.

The last time I saw leontyne price in concert was in 1985. It was right after she did her farewell performance of Aida at the Metropolitan Opera. As many of you know she was 57 years old and the concert hall was sold out. When She sang. Un bel di from Puccini madama butterfly she received a standing ovation. She did it to me again. She is responsible for my love of opera. Almost 40 years ago I was 14, I had no idea about opera. I thought opera singing was the jackal screaming. Then I heard her singing the aria "Tacea la Notte Placida" on an old gramophone record. Her voice touched high tones, I was shocked by the beauty of her voice "My God, who is she? She's fantastic! Leontyne Price". She got me. It's still the same, I am still shocked hearing her. She is not a soprano, she is a hunting weapon. Once she gets you, it is forever.

Never liked Leontyne, she never managed to click me although I dont find horrible flaws in her singing (american accent, too careful non-dramatic singing, very small voice singing dramatic roles but at least she always sang in tune, used her chest voice and didnt cut off the top notes... descent singer but I will never undestand what the fuss was all about)

@@LohengrinOyou are deaf. Pity you. You have missed the flawless technique, the incredible breath control, the restrained emotion, the hitting of the centre of the sound with unfailing accuracy (incredibly difficult and achieved by very few) and the fact she doesn't appear to have any bridges (moving from one octave to another) or she does have them but has learned to disguise them superbly. Talking about octaves, she has 4 and equally strong in all of them (fantastically rare) she is a mezzo, dramatic and collaratura soprano all in one. That's before we talk about the beauty, strength, purity depth and breath of that incredible sound. She had it all! And you missed it all.

@@benjaminjackson9449 i think you’re quite confused. she would be the first to tell you, she was not a dramatic soprano. she was a lirico-spinto at most. and all singers should have an even voice, from top to bottom. no one expects a soprano to have a contralto bottom but it should not sound so unfocused and color-less. price was a great singer but hardly perfect.
