I’m not sure if you see these comments still, but I’m curious what material you used for the background? I really like the look and have been looking for something easier than foam for my background. Sorry if you said it and i missed it!

Hi Kora, look for my other leopard gecko videos, I did a two part follow up. But it’s use dark cork tiles from amazon. I said hobby lobby in the video but they stopped carrying them a year ago-ish

@@EngagingEcosystems with soils, this is just a general question, should ones with Manure (sp?) be avoided?

I use top soil with no fertilizer from Home Depot mixed with play sand from Lowe’s

My issue for trying to do bioactive for a dwarf monitor is that the enclosure needs to be on the hotter side and it just dries everything up. They're not like leopard geckos that come out at night and stay in humid burrows during the day. Monitors will run around in the heat. Hard to keep a cleanup crew alive in that temperature and humidity, as well as the substrate constantly being dug up

I’ve not kept a dwarf monitor but I’m assuming they need a temperature gradient like most reptiles. If the “cool” side is still too hot use dermistid beetles, death feigning beetles, motioning beetles, along with things like giant canyon isopods that can truly tolerate drier environments.

Are the cork tiles animal safe??
@EngagingEcosystems4 жыл бұрын
Yes. The dark brown ones are that color bc they are heat fused, no added glue. I’ve even used them in dart frog setups.

Would this setup work for ball pythons as well?
@EngagingEcosystems6 жыл бұрын
Yan ball pythons need somewhat higher humidity than leopard geckos do, so I would recommend a different substrate mix for them. Feel free to hop over to my Facebook page and message me there and I’ll help you figure out the best mix :-)
