Shocking Rescue Dog DNA Results (Romanian Rescue) | WISDOM PANEL 2.0

Coming from Romania, we didn't know what our rescue puppy could be. She's large for 6 months old, but kind of short. She's strong, smart and also stubborn. We had a few ideas, but this Wisdom Panel DNA test revealed all - and we're shocked.

Wisdom panel isn't always accurate, I have seen false wolf and even coyote in these tests. Embark is more accurate overall. There are lots of smaller black and tan dogs all over Europe, both herder types and hounds so she could be any of those mixed in. Anatolians are falsely thought to be ancient but are a recent breed and heavily mixed so that may be a false read.

Ah interesting. Yeah the embark one is like 3 x the price and you had to pay extra in the UK to get it here, as is only available through their website, but I am curious to do an embark test and see if the results are similar.

Very fluffy. It is a mongrel, the nicest type. Before designer dogs!, they were often free mistakes. Even human dna tests, identical twins coming back as different percentages and different types.

@@leopardgeckotalk , the Embark is like $100 in the USA now. Maybe the price has dropped. The Wisdom test is known for tossing in some wild stuff that makes no sense. They are also known for declaring the breed of people who take the test.

I’d take the test with a grain of salt, these tests are not 100% accurate as they’re still learning what each dogs DNA looks like. Maybe cross compare wisdoms panel with another DNA kit? That would be cool!

Wisdom isn’t accurate at all they mainly just guess and don’t use the actual percentages I’d get her retested with EMBARK it is the most accurate DNA test out there

Agree for sure. This dog in my picture is not a basenji basset hound mix. Someone just checked off two boxes alphabetically adjacent to each other and took my money. Also my other dogs test was more accurate, but had two 12.5 percentages. That's just a number they like.

Well I thought about doing embark but because it’s not readily available over here you have to order it through their site, pay extra for delivery and then pay for it to go back. It was like getting towards £160+ 🙈 and from what I read I thought wisdom panel was good 🙈

Haha that would be cool. I am now very tempted to try it, and check if the same breed comes up on both, so we can say for example 'okay both tests have said shes part dachshund' or maybe they'll come back completely different.

@@leopardgeckotalk we did our dogs. One was from a shelter labeled as a mix breed, but was a full bred white German shepherd. Our other dog is a wild combination of dogs like this one, but we can see a lot of the dog mixes in him. Your dog is the epitamy of a surprise DNA test. Lol!

My dog has the same bed in black and she loves it! Very cozy! By the way there are loads of breeds that have black and brown in that bicolor pattern! Not just rotties! (I love rotties tho) i haven't seen the results yet and im thinking shes a shiba mix maybe! The dog I grew up with was a Golden retriever mixed with a Cocker spaniel. It's not that unlikely. The big dog is laying down one night and the little dog get frisky.

I was lucky enough to know the pairings back to my dog's great-grandparents. She's lab, chow, St. Bernard, Doberman, and Rottweiler, looks like a fluffy black chow with a long snoot. Loved the video!

Me and my wife got a couple of Romanian rescues who are roughly the same age as cleo. When people ask what they are we just say we have no idea. One looks like a border collie X miniature schnauzer and the other is definitely a jack Russell cross

I have watch the video an would say do not know alot about Romanian dogs breads. I would say the ears are French bulldog you did say she look like a corgi upside-down. She beautiful dog.

same here, Wisdom Panel is notoriously inaccurate in dog groups, people usually go with Embark, and even that is not 100% and only goes 3 generations back.

Man, I wish they had these for leopard gecko morphs. But I imagine it's probably a lot harder to test the DNA of a small reptile versus a dog. I mean, a dog, you can just like... swab the inside of their mouth pretty easy. But, a leopard gecko? Not so much.

I can see some sort of terrier in her head shape when she's facing downward, but I wouldn't say dachshund at all. X"D If there were terrier in Cleo my best guess would be Rat Terrier or German Pinscher, and I have seen both of these mixed with JRT, so that wouldn't be as far off I think. Although all of the above are used as ratting dogs, so having them around a farm is beneficial too.

I had my puppy’s DNA checked through Wisdom Panel and, like you, got a few surprises. We know thatLily is part Great Pyrenees because we saw her mother, who is a GP mix. Then, we suspected that she had some St. Bernard, which they confirmed. The tricky part is that there is no way Lily’s mother was part St. Bernard. They told a few other surprising things such as Labrador retriever, chow chow and beagle. While they found some unidentified Asian breeds, they completely missed the 50% Anatolian Shepherd. Lily’s father is a purebred. So, some of these tests might miss things that we think are obvious. I’m thinking that, one day when I get the money to spend, I will invest in a different test and see that outcome and compare the two. It should be fun. Congratulations on your beautiful Romanian puppy!

No matter what she is, she is absolutely adorable! You should try to see if another more accurate test would want to work with you and send you a kit in exchange for a review, and then you could see how the results vary.

For what it's worth, US-based crossbreed DNA tests are as accurate as the reference panel of dogs used to match the alleles, of which afaik are mostly US born dogs, with some overseas and non AKC registered dogs. Logically if your dog was born in the US, the test accuracy of the Embark test is higer than dogs coming from overseas. Hope this helps!

I would be very skeptical about these results. A Canadian show called Marketplace did tests on 3 dogs with 4 DNA companies. One of the 3 dogs was a registered pure bred "Best in Show" Great Dane going back 5 generations. Accu-Metrics asked what breeds they thought their dog was and the Great Dane owners lied and said Chihuahua. So Accu-Metrics came back with results saying the Great Dane was a Chihuahua! As one geneticist interviewed on the show said, these companies have a vested interest in making their customers happy. The show also sent in the human host's DNA. DNA my Dog came back saying the guy was 40-60% Basenji and 40-60% Beagle! Accu-Metrics said he was a mixture of Central Asian Shepherd, Turkish Kangal, Mastiff and Akbash Dog! Wisdom Panel and Embark came back with "Failed Test" results, which would give me more confidence in their testing. Two of the dog owners had dogs they picked up in the Middle East, one came from Istanbul and the other dog from Kuwait. Embark identified the dog from Kuwait as 100% Arabian Village dog, and the dog from Istanbul as 100% West Asian Village dog, which probably was the most accurate. Village dogs are not descended from pure breeds. Less than 25% of the worlds dog population are descended from pure bred dogs and I respect Embark being willing to give disappointing results to a customer. Most customers want their adopted village dogs to be descended from some mixture of pure breds. Wisdom Panel had a bunch of unlikely selections for the two village dogs. That said your dog does not look like any village dog I've seen pictures of online, but the DNA test of your dog does have some bizarre results which I find hard to believe are accurate.

How much does she weigh at 18 months and how tall is she at the withers?? Maybe that mystery "Breed Groups" relative is from a family of general purpose working dogs?? French Bulldog, Dachshund, Jack Russell (and to a lesser extent Anatolian) could be the source of some of the stubbornness, but I imagine that with that big of a mystery breed, it makes things harder to predict. Does this dog do well at solving puzzles??

Rather than worrying about her dog tags being seen, just take her collar off. No need for one in the house, and it gives her a feeling of getting comfy by having it removed when you bring her in from outside activities. Also, she's licking your hand because it's salty. Is she your very first dog ever?

I was like, those brown spots on her head.... what dog am I thinking of?! Ended up as a dashound. I see nothing else in her though.... I have a tiny, very long, very smart dog at home and he is super good with agility, and he barks at anything. We got him because he was said to be a corgi, or a corgi mix, but now, he has a bunch of things in him, and it seems, we are told he has...poodle... in him. He looks nothing like a poodle at all. Can anyone help me a bit with some ideas on why he is so long, though? He is oddly long, and his tail runs over his back.

I guess anatolian shepherd easy Her face and ears gives it away and also the softer fluffier fur Dashund I can see too with the more flat curve of the snout and the color of course Barbet I don't know very well but it's probably right there too Jack russell I'm not too sure on Maybe the fur type or the overall build shows it a little French bulldog is kind of a wildcard there but dogs don't always show characteristics of the breeds they makeup so maybe it is there maybe the test was off Either way she's adorable and we love her
