Modelling is fantastic.....if it had been filmed in B&W I would have been fooled.....

My grandfather had been born and raised in the Essen area, but then left Germany a few years before WW1 began. Anyway, what a great effort went into modeling these trains to scale, and I'm impressed with the result (if not the wars in which these guns were used.)

Craftsmanship is definitely not dead. Nor is pride of work of detailing. Thank you for showing. P.S. I built a model of a K5; Anzio Anne some years back. Made a dinoramma in scale with German WWII vehicles from Minitank. Gave it to a hobby store as a display because we moved out of state and it would have never survived the trip.

Very nice video and 99% accurate: the brown freight car has an UIC 10-digit computer-number. Another question is if bridges along the route would support the weight of the two guns coupled together? I would expect the guns should be separated by at least a couple of empty freight cars - or the passenger cars for the staff?

I don't suppose you have got a 'Dora' railway gun in HO scale? Would like to see this sort of detailed featurette about those monsters! Also what a great demonstration of the precision performance and detailing of the train models we see. Especially the slow speed control of the side view around 2:30 ... Roco always were a top class manufacturer although it was Fleischmann who originally acted as the first 'excellence' benchmark in HO scale back in the 1970s IIRC.

+Samurai'splayMC2 1 : 87 HO. All items listed at end of video (5'21"). Gun is by Rivarossi. They have been taken over by Hornby PLC so your guess as to whether you can still get them is as good as mine! Good luck with your train.

@letzterinstanz9 жыл бұрын
Rumple Stiltskin Hello Rumple Stiltskin. Thank you for your kind comment. Scale of railway when displaying continental trains is 1:87(HO); when displaying British trains is 1:76 (OO - which means British trains are slightly bigger but run on track gauge 4 ft 6 inches. It is an anomaly that has been present since the beginning of railway modelling)!

Yes, I'm amazed too. I think 4:3 vision will do. After all, it's only a toy train. Perhaps not the spirit the majority of viewers have been inspired by. Nice railway but the rail guns cannot fire cross tracks thay not built to recoil thay only capable of firing in a straight line, all that metal and men plus Material to lob a shell 30 to 40 k is not practical that why they only used a few times special track and a vast amount of time to set it all up things in short supply to the German forces,

I always wondered why it was that you tell when you were looking at a scale model (they used to be used regularly in old war movies). Then I stumbled across a photographer who makes fake miniature pics of panoramic city views (these guys use post-processing to adjust the Depth of Field to make real city views look like they are miniature models). So can adjusting the DoF do the opposite and make miniatures look big? -the answer is yes. To make small things look big you need to used scaled down lenses (to replicate the human eye's DoF). That's why the model ships in WW2 movies look like models, because to achieve that DoF with a real ship and camera the lens would have to be 30 ft across!! I've started adjusting the DoF in the 3D-modeling program that I use and the results are immediate and impressive. Maybe scale modelers can do the same?
@D3cyTH3r8 жыл бұрын
+Basic No, but wiki 'Miniature faking' and it goes into some depth about the technique (you might also want to check out the wiki pages on 'Depth of field' and 'Focal length') . If you google "Focal_lengh" (sic) and click 'Images' you'll find a picture of a red water-bottle taken with 3 different lenses. The 18mm illustrates nicely what can be achieved. Its something I'd never thought about adjusting before in the 3d-modeling program I use, but it really does work well for the project I'm working on (making a large ship look big!).
