Yes! Order of the Phoenix gets such a bad reputation. But I love learning about the ministry & Umbridge is the best written villain!! I think it’s in my top 3 HP books. Jaime your reviews are always so thoughtful & detailed. So if you ever upload a wrap up over an hour I would watch it! You’re that good!! 👏🏻✨

"It's just a really boring lawsuit..." Annnnd that's all I have to hear to not read the book. And I now want to wear a trilby in your presence. (not going to lie, I had to google it)

When you were talking about "The places I've cried in public" I couldn't stop thinking about the book "why we broke up" by Daniel Handler. I don't know if u know it, but it has a similar plot, only that at the beginning of the book u can actually like the boyfriend. Then, the protagonist starts to talk about all the reasons that make her broke up with him. I think what it's amazing about it is that u can relate a lot with her, like understand her emotions and all the breakup process. It's not an amazing book, but it's different and that's cool. Edit: it's more like a ya soft contemporary, not as though as you mention this one was.

I love the way that you talk about emergency contact. also, you should check out mary h.k choi's other book permanent record.. the male character is also really realistic in that one imo, plus more mental health rep!!

I’ve read another one of Robyn Harding’s books and I remember thinking the same thing about the characters, “I hate everyone” haha I definitely didn’t love Emergancy Contact as much as you but I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I did love the interactions between Penny and Sam, they were my favourite 💕 Omg definitely not picking up the Woman in the Window, I saw it on the shelf at a bookshop and was intrigued but you’ve definitely convinced me otherwise 😂

I loved name of the wind and wise mans fear. It takes a while to get into it but it's well worth it. Although it's like 900 pages long I flew through it. I found it really easy to read and the magic system is really original. If you like coming of age fantasy, you'll like name of the wind.

I always LOVE your reviews 😊 but I actually liked Woman in the Window even though several "twists" were quite predictable... I will preface by saying that I listened to the audiobook which I thought was really well read and maybe that had something to do with my enjoyment... For me, if a predictable book can still keep my interest then I'm here for it... I totally enjoyed Anna's constant inner dialogue and I thought the description of her agoraphobic feelings are so good that you feel like you're in her shoes as she steps outside. I didn't even realize it was 400 pages and I wonder if I had to read the physical book, if I would have felt differently? Maybe? 🤔

Based on your review of Emergency Contact, I‘d HIGHLY recommend you My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh. The main character is one of the most judgmental, pessimistic and reckless characters I‘ve ever read about.

Have you read Pachinko? I think it could be your bag. It’s a family saga following Korean immigrants in Japan; I know you dig Korean culture. I’d even venture to say it has some Evelyn Hugo qualities with unrequited love and the unfolding of a person’s entire life. The library probably carries it so you can follow that book-buying ban 👀👀👀 PS: Wonderful vid, as always.

I came here after just reading The Party. I thought it was ok. In my view i don't think the characters are meant to be rooted for, they're shown as not the best people to look at and see them beyond their perfect image of a wealthy family (which to say isn't the most original analysis)

The Party was the first book I read in January as well and I was so afraid I had jinxed myself by reading such a horrifyingly awful book for my first one of the decade. Thankfully I have read some great ones since, but omg The Party was atrocious, lol!!!!!

I didn't like The Woman in the Window either. I do love thrillers almost as much as horror, but I think modern thrillers are a little too similar.
