@Richy I mean... you say modern music is shit and then lament nothing is as good as... Interpol? As if everything they've done in the last decade hasn't been way below par. Also, Protomartyr are an obscure band pretty much nobody has heard of. That doesn't mean they aren't great. Your comment makes zero sense.

I wasn't paying attention and YT auto fed this to me. I was like what the hell is this? It's kinda awful (don't hate, I love Joy Division and JD sounds even worse 😂), but there is something that kept me listening. I'm on my second time through now. Viva La Protomartyr! Edit, it was the private understanding official video YT chucked at me. I somehow became intruiged and clicked this live vid.
@mcneeson4 жыл бұрын
Joe R People who like music just because it's complex, high quality and requires skill are superficial imo, you've got to remember that music has an emotional story behind it. Protomartyr's instrumentals and skill are reasonably low. But the feeling they evoke, the weight of the notes, that's what matters. They have a unique story behind their sound, more than any Van Halen, Mariah Carey or John Coltraine copy-cat will ever have.
@nicf15554 жыл бұрын
I mean the drumming and bass playing are pretty darn articulate
@weirdelf86044 жыл бұрын
I think your Bach's and Sartes would appreciate their phrasings n fun chord usage n key changes and etc along w beautiful poetry and danceable energy? Pretty talented to meee
@ultrahero21154 жыл бұрын
@@nicf1555 And the guitar playing isn't technical in a showy way but he's doing lots of colorful chord progressions and playing nice licks/leads over his chords to fill out the live sound and compensate for not being able to layer multiple parts like on the records. This band isn't instrumentally weak in the slightest; it's just not one of those technicality focused things like shred/prog rock/jazz fusion. I don't think @mcneeson knows much about actually PLAYING music if he thinks they aren't skilled.
@benjaminwichman48143 жыл бұрын
Protomartyr takes it further by only appearing simplistic -- particularly to people preoccupied with music lessons and Rush.
