Live in studio crowning achievement here. Whew. Lera is the real deal. Listen to her songs Tell Me, Out To Sea, Fade To Black, old favorite Paper Anchor and so many others and you will be transported. Like a beautiful chanteuse singing in the corner of a dusty old West Texas bar, her laments ring true. Beautiful stuff.

There's a bump on the hill, where your body lies There's a stone in the ground, reads "this man did try" If you look to the east, you see your estate Weathered and hollowed out by your mistakes Oh Bobby, baby, we all know the truth You were looking for love in all the bad that you'd do Bobby, baby, we all know the deal Your row was hard and long and straight up a hill Your mother was gone, your daddy did wrong Your brother died by his own hand Your wife tried so long, but you she disowned Your daughter was lost with your land, with your land Every once in awhile, I still can see Your blue eyes searching a way to be free And I go to your grave, bottle in hand And pour out your freedom right there in the sand

Her full LP is just awesome. I got to see/meet her in Cleveland at the Beachland Ballroom. Just a monster show, lyrically and musically. She's most definitely a child of pure country music and we're all better for it. Imagine 50 years ago song styling like hers; she would've have been a giant. Love this girl.

Here, let me help. What passes for "country" in Nashville these days is watered-down pop music with a fake-ass put-on accent. Country music -- which this beautiful song most certainly is -- was originally just that: music for country people, real, heartfelt, simple, soulful music for people with only guitars and fiddles and banjos for instruments. Modern pop-country music is a money-grubbing, over-produced, slick urban bastard, true, but THIS? This is a true child of true country music.
@folioio12 жыл бұрын
Country music *is* pop. It has never, from Hank Williams onward, been anything else. And as far as instruments, country went electric before there was such a thing as rock 'n' roll. Country is not traditional music, and it's designed to be played on the radio and sell a lot of records, exactly like any other popular music. And there's nothing wrong with that. Some modern country is great, some is terrible (like everything else), but it was never any more "real, heartfelt, simple" than it is now.
