I know I'm replying to years ago comments and it's 2020 now, and I usually don't leave comments since the last year cuz I make terrible comments, but the cultures and human mind started getting gradually retarded & lazy since the early 1990s, not since 2014. It has just gotten much worse in the last 5-6 years or so, even in 2020 it's worse than 2017. I could even say everything started getting worse in the 1960s, because this was when modern designs (e.g furniture) with little or no art started appearing, but whatever..

A very intricate and comical one indeed. Kind of insulting how many baroque fans are blindly dismissing any electronic revisions (or electronic anything) as anything else other than "noise". Just goes to show that listening to smart music doesn't make you a smart person.
@leoscock6 жыл бұрын
@@johnbazy True. Too many purists in the baroque scene. This paradoxically may be a reaction to baroque music lending itself very well to modern adaptations. Electronic versions of Bach's music are as old as the synthesizer and Loussier's Bach got me interested in jazz.

A most impressive performance! I showed this clip to a friend and she has a degree in music and was amazed how Mr. Vinikour could make this harpsicord project the sound as he did considering that harpsicords should not be able to modulate the increasing or decreasing of the volume like a modern pianoforte.

Hello! I have been without a working computer, so VERY slow to respond. You may have misunderstood the remark (from one year ago!), or I misunderstand your question! Although no living performer can necessarily guarantee absolutely "authentic" performances - i.e., the composer has been dead for 250 years, I am playing on a harpsichord, (basically) built to Baroque tenets, tuned as we believe the instrument was tuned 250 years ago. Any more questions, please ask!
@cieludbjrg47063 жыл бұрын
I just wonder what the «recommended» tempo is? I’ve seen the settings on a metrome, but, Imve also heard conductors like Karajan and Zubin Mehta do versjons of «Symphonie Fantastique (Berlioz), and Karajan feels painfully slow once you’ve heard Mehta. And I also came across some person plaging Rameau in a concert, and compared to what I’ve become «used» to, it was also (in my ears) painfully slow. Mind you, I once player the recorder as a kid, but I can no longer read music, I just listen to it and let the professionals (like you) play, and leave the listening up to myself. Now, a composer will write something on the tempo, but hos much is up to the performer? Seems to me I’ve read something about Bach not doing that on (some of) his piano pieces, the ones that were attacked (quite well, I think) by Glen Gould. And last but not the least: Your performance is mindblowing! And the camera work perfect. I want to see how you play, not the concert hall or your face (not that I mind, but compared your video with some of that new dreamy barefoot guy, and you’ll know what I mean). Keep up the excellent work, Sir!

You may be gratified to learn that I have heard ColinTilney say that he cannot play this piece! But then very few can. Amazing technique, and though I hear a bit of harmonic roughness occasionally, it is no more than one would expect when using such a resonant instrument and playing at such a pace. Bravo! Bravo!

What's so interesting is how Rameau came across composing this. To imagine what it takes to consider all the things he pondered over to construct it knowing that he had so much advanced knowledge of music theory. Damn it's amazing. Or maybe I'm just overly romanticizing the process...fuck it I don't care. Oh yeah: your playing is pretty fucking sexy, bro.

As I don't know about ancient Greek legends, I asked a classics student friend of mine who the cyclopses were, he simply replied "They were BLACKSMITHS". Predating both Verdi's anvil chorus from Trovatore and the chorus of real anvils in Wagner's Rheingold, I think this performance brings out the anvil imitations very well.
@johnbazy10 жыл бұрын

This is an old one, but I feel like I should verify: I wasn't referring to the Classical period in musical culture. I was referring to the whole scheme of "classical" music, you know, the thing that has span from the 11th century to about the early 20th century from today's point of view, that thing.
