If this wasn't a) in French and b) a song I already know with different orchestrations and in English, I would easily mistake this for an ABBA song. Waterloo and Amanda Seyfried fit right in.

Funny enough, the orchestrations for this French production and the London/Broadway version are both by John Cameron.

To all those who gently mock the Disco sound on this song, I want to recall that the recording was made in 1980. Moreover, at that time, and already in the 70s, most of the Disco hits on the planet were partly recorded in Paris, because the string section was famous (my father was part of it). The tapes came to Paris from London, from the USA, from West Germany, the french musicians played their part and the tapes left back to the country were they came from. On this extract we can hear the voices (in order of arrival) of famous singers Michel Sardou, Claude-Michel Schönberg, Salvatore Adamo, and Michel Delpech.

Wait, the "C'était un fils du peuple" lines sings Courfeyrac? I think it is Combeferre, just listen to Rouge et Noir "Allons, Marius, tu exageres", the voice is just the same. Ferre deserves his lines

Hum is that the actual photos of the show ? If it Sardou is kinda sexy, who'd have known ! It's funny how it sounds like Starmania or some songs of Notre Dame de Paris. I like that both versions have their own identity, the French one sounds like the others French musicals, and the Broadway show sounds, well Broadwayish. Am I making any sense here ? Idk haha. Neat discovery I had no idea it was originally from France. Now I want a Ramin DiscoEnjolras version haha, that'd be awesome !
