Thank you so much for doing this. This is one of my absolute favorite films. Once, when working on a cruise ship, I was really lucky to stop at Cherbourg on an unplanned visit on a Sunday when everything was closed. It was great to be there, but nobody at all was on the street except for passengers and crew. It felt so odd and silent, and then when the wonderful people of Cherbourg realized that a cruise ship was suddenly there, they rushed to open their shops and cafes. It was so kind of them on their day off, so welcoming! I was looking for any places I could recall from the film, so this helps.

I was 17 years old when I watched this movie while I growing up in Korea . I fell in love with movie and eventually met my husband who was French American. We have five children including one adopted. I believe subconsciously I was in love with French from seeing this movie and ended up married to French man . Such heartwarming love stories . From this movie I realize that man forgetting about old flame when he meets a new love .

The creators of this movie were able to skillfully present a typical story of love and loss while weaving in the obvious technical and seductive artistic elements of color, music, and beautiful people and not even trying to be subtle about it as many movie makers do. These elements like color, camera angles, scenery, and these young people are flagrantly put out there for all to see and we aren't distracted, turned-off, or bored by them. The ARE the elements of day-to-day life and also another factor in what makes what would be just "one more" tragic love story special and able to maintain a hold on our psyches for over 50 years.

Vidéo très intéressante, je ne suis allé qu'une fois ds ma vie à Cherbourg ds le milieu des années 80 et il faisait gris et pluvieux. Comme pour le Rochefort des "Demoiselles", le regard de Jacques Demy et l' art de sa caméra rendent magiques des lieux souvent très ordinaires ; les parapluies sont toujours là mais Catherine Deneuve et l' équipe du casting ne manquent-ils pas à votre belle ville de Cherbourg ? A la fin, ce n'est pas la place de la Fontaine mais la place de Gaulle (anciennement place du théatre). La place de la fontaine est au bout de la rue Albert Mahieu (anciennement rue de la Fontaine)
