It's on SBS television in Australia too, and we're eagerly awaiting Season 4. Great scripts and acting, so much better than the rubbish that comes out of the US. Thanks for this behind-the-scenes.

The reason Spiral is so great is because the actors show their real characteristics and personality throughout the full series and do not overact. It's as raw as anything I have seen on TV. 6 seasons of great watching.

One of my favorite TV series of all time. I'm at the start of season 4, glad to hear there will be a 5th. The writing and the actors are first-rate. I see this series as a critical commentary on the French legal system, with Roban as the moral hero if you will. His last scene in season 3 is amazing.

brilliant drama, and brave honesty in showing the corruption and racism in some areas of the higher echelons of french society. last episode of season 3, when they get ronaldo, is a masterclass in screen tension! BT vision removed it just as I was half way through season 4. why couldnt they remove desperate housewives instead??! superbe drame, et une franchise admirable pour reveler la corruption et le racisme qui existent dans certains secteurs de la societe francaise. La chasse de ronaldo (saison 3) est un chef d'oeuvre.

Sure, especially Laure when she's angry and her conversational French! Engrenages is a brilliant way to learn 'street French', to learn about the (superior) Interrogatory judical system, to see great writing (Roban nearly killing his mother!!) - I love it all. Most of all, it is the complex characters that make Engrenages such a success - watching Laure work so diligently and still be seen as a failure by some. I love her passion, that she decides her life, particularly her decisions about sex.

Engrenages will come back next september in France. I can't wait!!!! :) I think you'll have to wait few more months the show arrive in Australia. But I'm very happy to now it's broadcast in your country and that you like it. It's name "Spiral" in England. Is it the same in Australia? And you welcome for the behind-the-scenes. I'm glad you enjoy it. Not too difficult to try to understand the french, without any subtitles??

@andersonmother Well I'm also glad to have it on English TV! Actually we've had a fair amount of non-English media be very popular here recently: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series - both the books and Swedish films and a Danish series called The Killing has developed a following (though I'm yet to see this). I do hope it continues as it is great to have a chance to see into worlds other than that of the UK/USA. I can't wait to find and watch the first two seasons of Sprial! What a treat!

@andersonmother I can sympathise! But you know what, it's so great to find a non-English language programme on British TV, it really does wonders for my French! But also, I think all English speakers are really spoilt when it comes to having everything in our own language so I'm glad this show is having success over here. And yes, even English speakers struggle with some strong accents - there is such a variety of them in English!

Yes, unfortunately, it is also called 'Spiral' in Australia - such a stupid decision, but the literal translation of 'engrenages' is 'gears', a word that sounds very ugly in English. 'Spiral' is more evocative and curious, even though it is incomprehensible! I believe it is cultural imperialism to change such significant aspects of another culture's art. Many thanks for your videos andersonmother. (I also love the music of Gribouille - I hope you know it, it's sublime).

@sophialea15 I totally understand what you're saying about accents even complex for english. I've some english friends who said me exactly the same. :) You're right about the fact for you guys, everywhere in the world people speak english so some don't care to try something else. So I'm happy if our little show change something on the UK TV. We are very proud of that, because it's the first serie buy by an english network, which is known to be very qualitative (State of Play, Skins, Dr. Who...).

@Weimar1924 That's the problem. French television does not know how to make good series. Engrenages is one of the exceptions. It's from the Canal+ Channel, which is the only one taking risks. There is "Pigalle" (only one season), very beautiful and very good acting. It take place in the Pigalle quartier in Paris. "Mafiosa" is very interesting too. It's about the mafia in Corse. Thanks for the interest anyway. :)

This is the best cop series on British TV. Fast paced, unpredictable, grubby, corruption in the usual places, flawed characters that have redeeming features, it captures elements of 'real' life and crime. Which is more than can be said for the contrived, plastic and unrealistic crap made by British television, and even worse the utterly crap US garbage we also get. And, and it is a big and, Caroline Proust is HOT!
