I love this story so far and how far we've come. If this was written back when being gay was less acceptable, the romance would have been between Charlie and Ben and the assault would have been seen as "romantic." I'm glad we've moved past it to a point we can show kids what's healthy and what isn't. A true love story.

I hear what you’re saying and I agree, but unfortunately there still stories made today where the romance is toxic and abusive and it ends with them getting together in the end. Like Catra and Adora from She-ra, Pearl from Steven Universe falling in love with Rose Quartz (Pink Diamond) who literally had her as a slave and others I can’t remember at the moment. But I agree that it’s nice how this show is showing healthy and cute relationships.

Oh wow, I just felt you took a step into my realm. I work in a big book store chain in my country, and my job is in the English department (I live in a non-native English speaking country). Heartstopper is a favorite comic book of mine but also one of the best books sold in my department. I am responsible for all the stores to get all the best stuff from what my department imports and these comic books by Alice Oseman are just capturing the top best sellers here. Also, yesterday I watched the whole first season (no spoilers I promise) and look how Isaac is holding a book each time he is on screen, and how Charlie actually has 4 Alice Oseman books on his shelves in his room. Also Alice Oseman herself is showing up on screen herself in the last episode (I won’t say when so to not spoil any scene). I felt like my wonderful world of books integrated into TV.

I knew Ben was bad news from reading the comic, but I love how they introduced him to the show audience. Charlie walks in and maintains eye contact, asks how he's been after a long time apart, meanwhile Ben is super dismissive while ONLY looking at Charlie's lips. The actor also really nailed the sleezy vibe Ben has in the comic (honestly, all the acting/direction is between good and amazing in this show).

YES!! HEARTSTOPPER!!! I’ve read the comic at least 5 times and it’s so good! I recommend continuing to read it, and I will say, the Netflix adaptation feels pretty accurate (with some minor changes but I think it adds to the charm :3) and I’m so happy you’ll be reacting to it!

@@rorywalker6670 I think they replaced Aled with Isaac because Aled has his own story and i assume they didn't want to throw too much stuff in the mix. Even the author said that she didn't explore Aled's character in Heartstopper's comic because it would've been too much things to focus on. (Sorry for my poor english ahah)

7:27 my middle school (USA) was super super strict about not having phones out at lunch. Even if you were outside at recess. No phones. And if you had earbuds/AirPods in, depending on the lunch aid and what mood they were in, they will most of the time, just give you a look. A look of warning or something. Or sometimes tell you to put it away before they take it. Once my friend had her phone in her pocket, she took her phone out (it was still half inside her pocket) to check the time, and a lunch aid came over and tried to take her phone. (I don’t remember if she did or not, I think she might’ve.) like girl. You’re probably getting paid 3 cents an hour, you are not paid enough to care this much. Meanwhile, my high school didn’t give two 💩, as long as you weren’t harassing people or throwing food across the room, or doing something illegal, what you did is your business.

Yeah in UK schools, they ask you to hand your phones in at the beginning of the day to avoid distraction, cheat in class or text others.
