These turbines are NOT the future. There was 11% less wind energy produced in 2016 compared to 2015. Why, you might ask? Because the year was less windy. What do you think happens then? Yes. Coal plants. Nuclear can give us safe, reliable energy. In the entire process from making the plant until it needs to be deconstructed as it's gotten too old, a nuclear power plant has the second lowest carbon footprint out of any current methods of generating power. The only one that is lower, is hydro power. Hydro power, however, causes the collapse of entire ecosystems. Nuclear is the only source of energy of which all harmful matter is contained and only water vapor enters the atmosphere. 95% of nuclear waste of uranium fission is also less radioactive than your average slab of granite and the other 5% can be stored safely underground until we find a better solution for it in the future (for example, we transport nuclear waste by truck and train nowadays. Trains and trucks had times when they were super unreliable. In the future, space travel will be much safer and we can simply throw out the radioactive trash into space.).

Very insightful video. I didn’t know that the blade direction could be altered. That’s a useful feature. At 59% max efficiency, this is better than thermal power which usually provides 45% efficiency. I have two questions: how long do the wind mills last, and what is the nominal power output of a windmill.

Nah Good hydrogen-combustion thermal power generator can achieve 55% - 65% efficiency on a 1M - 1.5M scale already. It's just that hydrogen-based generator can't be vastly deplayed due to the lack of natural hydrogen resources.

Also Most of the turbine now can't even achieve 40% efficiency consistently. While thermal based generator can keep at up to 45% very consistently. There's still a long way to go for wind turbines.

great video! As someone who builds these for a living I like that you got all the terminology correct. One of the biggest things I've noticed when I tell people what I do is that there are ONLY two types..you either think the turbines are "cool" or you find some reason to hate on them. Solar, wind, and battery technologies are the future..people can talk crap about my industry but if I had the choice of raising a kid next to a wind farm, or a toxin belching coal power plant..the choice is real obvious right?

Did you know, solar panels on residential homes, are a catrostophy, most fire depts, are told to let a house burn, that has solar panels installed, because there is no way of shutting off the panels, basically firefirefigherts put water on the houses beside them.

They are hooked up the "internet" 24/7. It's known at SCADA- supervisory control and data acquisition. It's a live condition monitoring software. The wind turbines work very well. Betz limit is the theoretical limit of how much energy you can extract from the wind before the wind flow is slowed down and the wind nearly stops.

nssm, electricity is not stored in a grid system, demand and supply is always balanced within close limits. Some utilities and others use spare generating capacity to store potential energy. A common one is hydro pumped storage. This is a system with two dams, upper and lower. The upper dam is filled by pumping from the lower dam when grid demand is low. It consumes more power than it generates. It's function is to quickly generate power for the grid when there are sharp peaks in demand, as they start generating just by opening a valve which starts the turbine. (The turbine and the pump are one and the same machine, i.e. dual purpose). Solid state batteries can do teh same, but note they are not storing power to use later, it is the rapid response to peaks that is why they are used. It gives some time to theconventional generators to pick up the load, this is only a matter of minutes or less. The grid (U.K.) runs at 50 Hz within+ or - 0.5 Hz, increased grid load pulls therequency down, just like a car meeting a hil, you open the throttle maintain speed, generators do the same, their fuel supply is opened automatically by the governor. If the limits are exceeded then switches disconnect part of the grid and a power cut occurs. Wind generators, by the way contribute nothing to this continuing and regular load balancing.

The wind passes over the blades and makes them turn (kinetic energy) the blades turn a shaft within the nacelle(the box at the top of the turbine).The shaft turns a generator which converts the kinetic energy into electical energy. A step up transformer converts the electricity to a higher voltage to be transmited (electrical transmission) ; Typically to 11,000V up to 33,000V and The electricity is then exported to the local electricity grid network.

Great insight into the build just subscribed and it’s a nice compact turbine I also have built a homemade 650 watts wind turbine, a treadmill motor turbine and a little but powerful ametek 30v turbine and built 2 diy solar panels, be careful in high winds one of my first turbines blew up 😕and now have only 2 wonderful turbines working daily 😊it’s very satisfying watching those things working, keep up the good work buddy 👍

if we use magnetic induction in making air electricity forever then we can captured any direction wind in more efficient way's so we use a 360 degree rotation on upper end and all the electricity going to give its voltage to secondary coil so we got more voltage rather then current and more efficient energy collectively

Not likely! Well! At least not these varieties of wind turbine. DC electricity and batteries? Not a pretty site when a battery explodes. Expense and dependency to me are the biggest issues. Plenty of ideas out there to put in motion. The only wind turbine I am keeping an eye on is from a developer in Utah. He is calling it the Power POD. The kinetic wall wind turbine looks interesting as well. I had my hopes for for this solar roadway. Not much has gone forward. Lots of great ideas even warning signals digitally displayed. First learned of that idea in popular Mechanics 23 years ago. Personally I think electricity is over used and wasted. It also has developed a more negative impact on human life as well as nature.
