I live in Tennessee, so in winter we get some migratory birds from the north. There's a type of white crane or stork that come here, and they're my favorite to see, but they are pretty uncommon only showing up on some bodies of water.
@anthonydavies60212 жыл бұрын
Brilliant. Lesley. Your owls are the most striking for me, especially the magnificent great gray owl. How lucky you are to have such a wealth of beautiful birds available to spot in the winter, even if you have to get your snowshoes on to see some of them! Here in south-west England there is much less of a variety, although on my local walks I can see one jay species, one of our woodpeckers, several finches (including the shy but very striking bullfinch), titmice and other LBJs (little brown jobs) to mention some. It all helps to get one through our seemingly endless grey wet days (snow is very rare in these parts), in any case. On the other hand we see early signs of spring already here, so there are compensations.

I love all the birds in this video. I live within a small town in "the Northeast Kingdom" in Vermont. It's not often I can see birds close up, but when I can, I feel blessed. I'd love to put out feeders, but the feeders attract mice to the house. Most common here: blue jays, chickadees, goldfinches, crows, ravens and barred owls. Sometimes, a snowy owl shows up! I love to watch the tinier birds, like juncos and song sparrows, forage. They kick backwards, sending the leaves flying. (So cute!) All the birds in this video are so well filmed, especially the closeups!

Thanks to the pandemic, I now get to work at home and view a lot of the birds shown on this video. We have two platform, two hoppers as well as two tube feeders to keep up with a couple of times a day. Our house is located in Fairport, NY with access to the Irondequoit Creek, so we see a lot of birds year round. Common to this area are the songbirds shown on your video (esp, Tufted Titmouse - I had never seen them before this year! as well as Nuthatches and chickadees, Jays, Cardinals. When fall just began this year we had a handful of mourning doves - now because of regular feeding time and addition of platform feeders to yard we have a large flock (>50 of them) daily. I think I am working just to feed them! The hardest part for me is watching squirrels and deer coming into yard looking for food. This winter is what I call a real winter with snow on the ground now for several weeks. I have to keep telling myself to ignore them - they will find food. But it is really hard! Lesley, I so enjoy your videos and am grateful that my granddaughter enjoys them too and feeding and watching the birds out our windows.

I put out suet for the downy woodpecker and the squirrels thought it was for them. The red bellied woodpecker has been making an appearance too. Just love the winter and all the different birds that come and visit. Nothing like seeing the blue jays and cardinals against the snow covered trees.

Another awesome video Lesley. I have had extreme cold here for about two weeks in Alberta. Plunging into -40⁰ . The birds were trying to eat me out of house and home. Filling some of the feeders every morning. But I was happy to help feed them all. The yard was almost seemed to be the hang out spot during the day for weeks. Yesterday the cold broke and the birds seemed to thanked me by filling my yard with song. Lesley hope you and Jammie had nice New Years eve. I wish you and Jammie the best in 2022. @@Garland67 I provide the with high calorie food for the winter months. Such as peanuts, suet, and sun flower seeds some of lthat I grow in the yard and leave up for the birds to forage. In the summer the birds don't really use my feeders. During the summer they seem to forage though the flower beds and garden for insects. Lesley does have some videos about bird feeders and winter feeding if you haven't already seen them. Hope you are having a great New year so far and happy bird watching.
