Ha! Brings back memories! Decades ago I was homeless, living in the woods for 4-1/2 years. While it was certainly an unhappy existence, one of the bright spots was how the wrens would visit me in my camp. Knowing nothing about these birds, I was amazed how cheeky and bold they were, closely examining me from inches away. The little varmints used to fill my hat with debris while it hung next to my lawn chair. I could never catch them in the act, but would discover their mischief when I grabbed it to head into town. Another fearless visitor was the ovenbird. They would stop in twice a year on their migration. If I sat still, they would often forage on the ground right at my feet. If I moved, they would only retreat a short distance, then get back to work. Once the local wildlife gets used to you being there 24/7, you're not considered a threat anymore. I even had bobcats stroll by a few feet away without even a sideways glance at me.

Wanted to say after going organic in my urban garden and 5 season with no bug killer I think I am seeing wrens in my yard and nesting in my yard more than before I always had wren boxes and gourges with tiny entrance but truly didn't have many move in. The last 3 years seems I'm having wrens yearly and some seems to must be raising several batches of young. Truly do I feel great seeing wrens enter my row of tomatoes and seeing them flying in in many trips I believe they are carrying away insects that trying to damage my veggies and are these birds aways busy . These are my favorite singers and very cute and clean them bugs from my garden. My little buddies 💕

Great vid as always. Summer 2022, Austin, TX - super hot, almost no rain. Wren nest on front porch. At one point, a baby was crying constantly. His 2 nest mates had died and had maggots. Just a nightmare. We took him out, put in new nest material. We kept a water bowl there for them. The parents resumed feeding. And soon he fledged. I hope he has a great life.

I had a Wood Thrush hanging out on my terrace yesterday - first time I ever saw one (my species count from my Connecticut terrace is up to 34 now) - if you don't know that bird, talk about CUTE! Hahahah oh my gosh, wow! That must have been something. I once had a Blue Jay in my home, in fact, it was Blue. I'll never forget it. I went on to bed the night before and I asked my husband to close the living room window before he went to bed. He forgot, and the next morning I heard some noise. Here was Blue inside trying to get back out but didn't know how to. He must have panicked. I had no idea how I was going to catch him. I just walked up slowly and gently put my hand out. At first, he tried to get away but then ended up in the palm of my outstretched hand. I slowly walked over to the window, he stayed perfectly still the entire time. I put my hand out the window and off he flew. All the other jays including his mate Sweet Girl were outside in the birch trees. What a story he must have told them. So sweet.

And yes, I accidentally trapped one in my garage last year, but thankfully I found him the next day and he was fine. :) And LOL at multiple choices of a house and a side entrance. Sounds like a human couple going house hunting. Once when I was growing up a pair nested in a concrete flower pot we had, dug down about a half inch into the soil, then built a dome over the top. Last year a pair nested in the rafters of my patio. When I'm digging around the yard I leave the insects laying around for the wrens and robins.

I guess if the world never had any such creatures evolve, we wouldn't know any different. But I am glad we have them! Adding to my list of great calls and sounds would be: house wrens, song sparrows, red winged black birds, thrushes, screech owls, barred owls, crows, and so many others that can turn a dull moment or day, into something goose bump inducing, nostalgia producing and soothing. And I'm not even a bird watcher.

These birds look really similar our to our gray crowned babbler, but ours are not very easy to pease. Nor do they like being filmed😅Great nesting footage👍

A few years ago, my cat was sitting by the window looking out at the porch when Carolina Wren fledgling saw him and, being curious, perched on the rocking chair where it could look in. The young wren made little cheeping noises and was soon joined by a couple of its siblings, who were all very excited about the cat. Soon, mama wren came over, saw the cat, and started making a staccato alarm call. The youngsters repeated her alarm, then they all flew off.

My cat, Barko, snuck one into the house in his mouth. Unharmed, the poor bird proceeded to fly about the house trying to escape through the closed windows, pursued by Barko climbing up the drapes, pursued by my wife trying to save her curtains! It was a wild few minutes until we could calm everyone down. We always checked what Barko was carrying after that, but unbelievably, he managed to do it again. Sheesh!

I love Carolina Wrens. I usually have a pair nearby each season - they search for any bugs in potted plants - very fast, busy little ones. Thanks Lesley! - Stephanie

They're such cute little birds! We have a Carolina Wren that's suddenly appeared at our feeders within the last week and I just adore watching him. We live in the northeast in Massachusetts so this isn't a common bird here and I know I've never seen one in all my years of living here so it feels kind of special that he's hanging around and enjoying the food we've put out 😊

About a year ago, I had a busted screen in my window. Only about 4 days later, I noticed a little nest was starting to develop. Found out it was a little Carolina Wren nesting in there with its mate.😂 I just couldn’t kick them out so I just let them nest there all summer. They’re such cute and curious little birds!❤️

What a super sweet bird! I love wrens!!! I saw a very cheeky tiny bird grabbing big walnuts from the squirrel nut bowl and dodging squirrels then gleefully flying off with his prize. He had this white streak near the eyes, tail up at 45 degrees, slender curved beak that was meant for insects not seeds, and wondered what bird that was. Not a finch with that beak. Looked like a chipping sparrow, but they are more docile and fat beak like all seed eaters. It turned out this was a Bewick's Wren! Bold as brass this tiny thing stealing nuts and ignoring the bird seeds. I love this guy. He hops around hoppity, hop, hop, hop, checks everything out, chirps his songs, and visits me daily. I have to put up nesting boxes. I must keep him around, my little Wren.

I adore their feisty selfs. They're so bold, scolding us for living in the same place they do 😂 I started buying meal worms as a peace offering lol. I have a hilarious picture of one scolding the security camera in mid air 🤣 They also let my son know who's boss when he works on the car, they sit a few feet away when he's laying under the car and give him heck. Very entertaining as they hop around looking for insects, and we have plenty of them here by the river.

Your videos are always so informative thank you. A couple of weeks ago we had a few very warm days and left our family room doors open. Then when dusting shelves a week later found a pile of twigs in one corner of the top shelf. Our Wren had been starting a nest! We have often seen her exploring in the room last season. So cute.

I was _just_ thinking about you and something you said the other day. You said once that "crows are, after all, song birds". I was in the yard doing gardening stuff and I heard a turkey (the gobble gobble gobble sound) and I'm thinking "there are no turkeys around here...no way, no how". Well sure enough, I waited and triangulated the sound to this crow up on a wire between a couple of Italian Cypress in the neighbor's yard. I have never before heard a crow make that sound but that is certainly the beast that was making the sound, I could see the throat move as it made it. Anyway, enjoyed the video on wrens. Wondering what the diff is between a Bewick's Wren, like we get here in California, and Carolina Wrens...they look very similar.

The Bewick’s Wren has a longer tail than a Carolina Wren, I believe, and the coloration in the Bewick’s Wren doesn’t seem to be as rustic-colored as the Carolina Wren. Also, your testimony on a Crow imitating a gobbling Turkey is amazing! 😲😱😃 Never heard of a Crow imitating a Turkey before; very interesting. 🤔🦃

Great video, we love our wrens! We have a pair that nest on a little platform under our deck each year. They have the sweetest (and loudest) song... And the cutest little hop about. We enjoy them so much. Think we might try a nesting box this year. Can't wait!! 💕

Hi Lesley! What timing you have! Opened my BBQ lid yesterday and it was full of moss and sticks etc. Just used it 2 days before. Took out the nest material last night to cook and then felt bad about all the Wrens hard work so I put it back in this morning and the pair added to it all day. It’s theirs as long as they need it now. Over the last 4 years they have tried to build in the garage and my shed. They are so industrious! Thanks for another great video! It was like you knew I found that yesterday. Lol
