Great review and also a great speaking voice with good tone, very much appreciated. Lots of useful information delivered quickly and in a way that is pleasing to listen to--if only everybody did it this way.

Thank you for your kind comments. The registrations at the time you mention are 888000000 with Vibrato Chorus at the C3 position & 3rd harmonic percussion, volume soft, fast decay. The 2101 is just set to factory default on the video.

once again, thanks for the positive comments - I recommend buying a Leslie 145 every time - small enough to be portable and they hold their value .... best of all of course is that they sound really good with a Hammond organ .... :-)

thanks. I was concerned the constantly flashing Power Amp Overload led was a problem on my end .. apparently you have it too. 'overload' sounds bad :-/

I really don't like them. This one belonged to a friend.

I use Leslie 2101 with a Markbass 15" and it works great and very portable (my Markbass is only 18kg, but very power full). I also have the 2121 bass unit, but very rarely take it to Live gigs because it's heavy and much less transportable than the Markbass (Leslie 2121 weights 40kg). Basically , YES, you can connect the Leslie 2101 to any bass unit. (And you will need some bass unit, since it's quite "trebly" on it's own...)

Why it's important for me: I don't know, what to buy: Leslie 2101, Leslie 122 (145, 147) or to use both of these devices. Thanks, Keith. You are great musician & engineer!

Dear Keith, thanks for the beautiful lessons of playing jazz & rock on the Hammond organ. Your playing is really nice and professional. The sound of your Hammond C3 & Leslie 2101 mkII is fantastic! This sound is the one of the best, what I heared in Hammond review in the world. Please, write how you make the some sounds in this demo (00:07, 01:29): registrations drawbars on C3, notes, sets 2101 mkII & others. Thanks, Sergio, Hammond A-100 & your fan from Kyiv, Ukraine.

Hello Sergio, on this video the opening sequence is also through the 2101 Leslie - I needed some music to introduce the video & I used some that I didn't use in the video later on . . . .

Dear Keith, thank you for your answer! I knew so, did not almost doubt. Drawbars registrations = '888000000', V&C = 'C3', percussion = '3-d harmonic' - are, peharps, most often used. But I understand this: you turn 'ON' power Leslie 2101 at 00:14 sec. Sound, which I hear at moments (00:06 - 00:10) & (01:29 - 01:33) - passes through Leslie 2101 (factory default setting) or through your hand made Leslie 145? This question is very important for me. Thanks. Sergio (Kyiv, Ukraine).

I considered a 2101 but ended up buying a 3300. By the time you add a "bottom" to it, the 3300 seems the better choice.

Where did you see a 2101 without a bottom?

Isn't a 2101 sort of incomplete without the "bottom"? I'm sure it will work well with the intended Leslie bottom, but how will it work with a bass amp or a keyboard amp big enough (15", 100+watts) to do the job, as a "bottom rotor"? Or does it require the dedicated bottom from Leslie (very big and heavy) real top, sim bottom is a good way to do the job, especially for higher volume, since the woofer fires direct.

Hey Keith, I have a Hohner Ort 100 solidsate leslie clone, Almost the same size as a Leslie 860. It's have's a high and lower rotor But for bass it's not really good sounding with a 12" in a small compartiment. But then again i have no hammond, I play with a Wersi Ox7 organ module. It's sound far from perfect, the sound is really quit unique

Are there better angles and acoustic environments or better spots to place Leslies? Can a bad place diminish or dillute the effect? Can a good place increase the effect impression?

My XK3C also seems to light up the overload and I’m nowhere near full volume.
@B3burner2 жыл бұрын
Yes I find it’s very sensitive. You need a separate bass speaker to redirect the bass away from the 2101, and give the mids & highs a little more headroom before hitting that red light. I haven’t tried it yet, but I imagine miking the 2101 will give you more volume out the PA without having to max out the 2101 itself- thus avoiding the red light.

Hi Keith. I enjoyed your very informative talk about the 2101. That said, I have a query which I hope you can assist me with: I have 2 vintage Hammonds and Leslies: a C-3 (connect by a 6-pin cable to a 145) and also an RT-3 (connected in the same way; but to a 122). And the query is: Can I use an adaptor cable (6-pin to 11-pin) to connect the 2101 to these organs like with the 122 and 145?
@keithappleton7 жыл бұрын
No they work in very different ways. I think there may be some custom adaptor boxes to do this, but it's more than just a cable.
@charlesdubois16237 жыл бұрын
OK. Would you know where I can buy one of these custom adaptor boxes?
@keithappleton7 жыл бұрын
I think I saw one on Ebay a while back ......
@charlesdubois16237 жыл бұрын
Can you recall whether it's a dedicated box for either a 122 or 145; or is it a switchable box [for the 2 different model Leslies]?

I would love for someone to tell me where to put mics on this cabinet vs a full size leslie. I'm not getting a clean sound and way too much air.

There's stereo speakers that alternate in relation to the top horn. It might not be as good as a mechanical baffle spitting the bass tones around, but from what I've heard it comes pretty close. You're basically sacrificing a little bit of the bass realism for compactness. I think it's a perfectly good trade off considering these get you closer to authenticity than pretty much any Leslie sim out there today, and it's much lighter and smaller.
@commonpike24 күн бұрын
@@Dr.CumsteinMD to be precise, there are stereo tweeters and woofers on board. The docs are very confusing, but it from what I hear (I have one) the really low sound is pretty much gone. fe playing low keys with only reg 1 (800000000) is barely audible.

Does it work on hammond xkc-1c with Leslie switch
@keithappleton2 жыл бұрын
Sorry - no idea on that .....
@B3burner2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but you need the 8-pin Leslie cable to control it from the organ. Otherwise, you need to plug the small foot switch that came with the Leslie into the Leslie control jack and control that from the speaker- not the organ.
