I will never forget. I was 10 years old and I was on my second week of 5th grade. As a Canadian, you would think it impacted me less, or not *as strongly* as Americans, but let me tell you. It was the worst day of my life. My dad worked IT for a cement company that is North American operated. Meaning HQ was in Washington, DC. Guess where he was on that day? Yup. At HQ. We were terrified. My mom picked us up at school and gave a BS excuse to the principal to keep us at home even though none of us were sick. I will always remember the phone ringing every fifteen minutes from a family member asking if we had any news from dad. He finally was able to call us around 9pm. He couldn't leave the country for a couple extra days even if he was set to come back the next day. The relief when we picked him up at the airport is a feeling I will never forget. I will never forget Sept.11, 2001.

@@katiekawaii I'll never pretend to understand the pain of losing a loved one on this terrible day, but I can share the pain of not knowing. Just wondering, watching the news, staring at the phone for hours. I lost my innocence that day.

9/11 is one of the saddest days ever....I’m on the other side of the world & I vividly remember standing sobbing watching it happen live on tv ...I thought it was an accident at first then remember screaming 😱 and sobbing as I saw the second plane crash....horrendous day of sorrow 💔💔💔💔💔

I was on break at work and there was a TV in the cafe area. I thought the same thing when watching coverage of the first plane and then actually saw as the second plane crashed into the tower. When I went back and told others, no one believed me. I imagine that is how people felt when they heard Pearl Harbor was attacked. We have felt so safe being oceans away from those who hate us. Unfortunately, it's just an illusion of safety.

When the second plane hit I knew we would be in a war. I lived 60 miles n.w. of Washington, D.C. and my parents lived about 2 miles from the Capitol Building in D.C.. . So frightened for them. Brother lived near the Pentagon and felt in the impact there. It was horrible. Relatives NYC firemen. Relatives in Ireland called to check on us after a few days that was when I broke down crying. Scary time.

I cry every time I watch it. My husband was supposed to leave on 9-21-11 for Taiwan to work for the power plants there. I was scared to death when he left. His father was ill at the time so I went to stay with him during Christmas in case his dad passed away. I couldn’t stand the thought of him being by himself if it happened. The people over there were the nicest people I have ever met. They knew our fears and did everything they could to help me. They would pick up their family and call me and pick me up. I saw more of that country in 3 weeks than my husband did in 7 months. We will never forget that day. Never. I was at work that day. I worked for the Space Program ay Kennedy Space Center, FL and we were called to the meeting room. I fell apart at the second tower being hit. I kept every paper until they caught him.

quick cat tip: boil the catnip for a few minutes to make strong "tea", let that cool down, put the cooled "tea" in a spray bottle and spray it on things you'd like the cat to play with, and tadaa catnip spray.... worked for all 3 of my little monsters, and it's a lot cheaper then bying something prefab and chemical and really easy to make since it's basically jest brewing tea...

I had a rare day off of work. I remeber crying and dropping to the floor. My parents both worked at a fire truck manufacturing company here in Wisconsin and I remember after everything happening seeing the engines they made to help replace those lost in the attack. My dad was also a volunteer firman and my mom was an EMT and when I saw them I just hugged them and thanked them for all they did for our community.

Great observation. My youngest daughter was born Sept 30th, 2001 and she had a 2 month delay this year having her high school graduation, yet until you made the comment about this years high school graduates coming into the world with 9/11 and going onto graduate/start adulthood during the covid pandemic, I hadn’t made the connection. Birth and high school graduation are definitely big miles stones for anyone, but to have them both coincide with unforgettable world history is huge! Going on two decades later people from all over the world still remember where they were/what they were doing on 9/11 and I’m betting years from now people all over the world will remember just as specific details dealing with the Covid 19 pandemic.

I had just arrived to my former employment inside Costco Warehouse in Merriville,Indiana. As I walked pass the tv sitting on display,I notices warehouse members, and employees of Costco gule, to the tv about New York Twin Towers on firer and falling down, right before our eyes. Seeing something like that, was hard to get over, and still til to this day,it hurts to hear stories on it when every September comes around.

I was in 8th grade history, they waited until about 1:30 and made the announcement. They told us we weren't allowed to contact parents and told parents not to come get us. The teacher said "Some day, you'll read about this in your history books (2 years later, he was right) " You'll never forget this moment, it's called a flashbulb memory. If you wonder what that's like, ask your parents where they were when Kennedy was shot." Right again. 8th graders take a trip to Washington DC. every May, we almost had ours cancelled. We were some of the first to see the damaged pentagon up close. I live about 15 minutes from the Cleveland airport that was tracking flight 93. You don't realize how "normal" seeing planes is, until there suddenly aren't any.

I was in middle school and they didn’t let us watch anything. They had the news on originally but turned it off shortly after the school day started. This caused more panic from students not knowing going on, and to this day i think it was a bad decision on the principals part. You only were told by teachers if they felt they could tell us. I currently work for an airline at HQ and hearing more senior employees stories of that time is always emotional for me. I can’t imagine worrying all day about what was happening all around them.

Story time: I started a round the world trip in October 2000, with my sister...we were 21 & 23 at the time, one of the last few cities we visited were in the US and we ended up spending a little less time in some of the places so arrived home a month earlier than originally planned on 8th September 2001. One of my favourite cities was NYC and we spent about 2 weeks there. I still have my ticket from the viewing platform of the Twin Towers (I kept all of the tickets from my travels) it is dated 31st July 2001. I bought some postcards and the lady on the till laughed at me when I joked that the bills were all the same colour and size which was confusing to a British trying to find the right money... and I spent my birthday in NYC on 2nd August, going to my first ever proper baseball game at Yankee Stadium...I also have my Pentagon visitor tour ticket from about a week later when we visited Washington D.C...I even remember the guide telling us about the building work which was going on at the time something to do with the walls, they had completed all but one side. Had we stuck to original schedule we would have been in NYC around 9/11. The postcards I had bought and posted in NYC had been arriving to friends and relatives as all this was happening and we had a flurry of phones calls to the house as not everyone had been aware we were already home. I often wonder what would have happened if we hadn't changed our plans...this was the only time we had during our whole trip ❤

I remember exactly where I was during 911. I was in Pensacola at a courthouse filing paperwork. I had gotten there bright and early. While standing in line we were all told to stay in place and not to remove anything from our purses, briefcases, backpacks etc...... From there we were all searched and then told what had happened. I sunk to the floor. My entire family past and present were military men and women and I knew what this meant for all our active soldiers. When I caught my breath and collected myself all I wanted to do was get out of the courthouse and get to my children. About a hour into lockdown at the courthouse they were excorting us out one by one and we were told to not loiter in the parking lot or the immediate vicinity. I got in my car and headed home. I cried the entire three hour trip home. My children were brought home by a friend as they were released from school / college early. I was trying to keep me calm, them calm and calling family to make sure everyone was okay and accounted for, like I said a huge military family, like you stationed in VA Bch, Annapolis MD, Jax FL, Pensacola, FL, TN, CA and several were overseas. So it was a very gut wrenching feeling. That day and weeks to come were very stressful on all of our military family and friends. I will never forget that day, my movements, my prayers, giving blood, trying to protect, answer my children's questions and providing as much comfort as I could life was going to be different for awhile but we would survive. Now we have this pandemic and I find myself in the same place but now I have a new generation of grandbabies I am answering questions and comforting. Thank you Asa for your service and Cilla for yours as well, because we military women understand well we serve too in so many ways. ❤️🤍💙

I was 11 (6th grade) when 9/11 happened. I’ll never forget that morning. The sunrise was abnormally beautiful that morning as I waited for the bus. Throughout the morning, kids were getting pulled out of class left and right. We knew something was going on. Our music teacher thought we were mature enough to handle the news. She calmly explained the situation. We were all in disbelief. But most seemed slightly better off knowing they personally didn’t have anyone in the city. But not in my case. Just a week prior, my dad spoke about getting blueprints from an office in one of the towers. And that just flashed through my head the rest of the school day. I didn’t know if he was at ground zero. I didn’t know if he was alive. Kids were making jokes on the bus home. I was in a full panic. I got off the bus and ran home. Called his cell over and over again but couldn’t get through for longer than I liked. Finally I heard him say “I’m okay, I’m alright I’m on my way home.” His story, although not as heroic as others, still touches me: he was on the other side of Manhattan at a job site. Went down to a coffee truck for a little break. A low flying plane flew over their heads. It was the loudest thing he said. It echoed too. He went back to working. But they were told a plane hit crashed into the WTC. They didn’t think terrorism. No one did. Kept working. But when the second tower was hit, they went onto the roof of the building they were working on. My dad saw the first tower go down with his own eyes. He left the building. He offered strangers on the job site a ride back to the train station they left their cars back on Long Island. But getting out of the city wasn’t easy. Most ways out were shut down, bridges, tunnels, railroad. But there was a very brief opening. He got out of the city and drove strangers back. They would have been stranded in the city if it weren’t for him. New Yorkers might seem cold, but when things happen, we work together to help each other. NY strong forever. I remember months later we went to the city and to see the memorials all over the city.. heartbreaking. I will never forget it.

I was 15 years old and was sitting in my English class in high school when it happened. It was a horrible day for sure. And it's definitely crazy how it's already been nineteen years.

I have a cat like that. I got a cube cardboard scratching post thing from target for like $15/$20, and now she doesn’t scratch anything else😺 also put the catnip in the little spaces- the cat will love it.

My grandfather is part of the reason we have footage of it. He was filming for CNN on the top of another tower when the first plane hit. I wasn’t thought of yet, the youngest brother was 2 months away from being born... and I can’t remember where everyone else was.

I am one of your younger viewers, last year in Social studies I remember my teacher telling us about what she experienced when 9/ 11 happened (she was around Abbie's age when it happened) along with her experience and some videos I think that was the most I actually learned about 9/ 11.

Talking to people who remember it is the best way to get a picture of what it was like. You probably don't hear about the little things from docs and lessons. Like the flags absolutely everywhere. Every car had a flag bumper sticker or window clip. The televangelists yelling about it being the beginning of end times that the bible predicted, and to beware the coming of the anti-christ. The conspiracies on who it would/could be. This thinking sticking around up until Obama's inauguration when more than a few idiots thought he was it. That time we got mad at France during the war and tried to rename french fries "freedom fries". The yellow ribbons in the yards of houses who had a member enlisted. And of course the soldiers who didn't make it home, and many coming back with PTSD.

Worked a block away from the trade center. Watched from my office window 😢 My kids worked there too. They survived. Walked over the Brooklyn Bridge covered in ashes. Lost two young fireman family members and some friends. No, I will never forget. 💔

Those scratchers are awesome. I buy many and place them all over especially in my living room I have leather furniture. He love it. But I cut his nails about once a month. I was in middle school when it happened they had it on the TVs in our classrooms. They let us go home we’re in Ohio. So when they said one is going towards Pennsylvania they wanted us home and not in public buildings. I had to go with my grandparents and we just watched and cried. We were so in shock. It was a crazy time.

I'm definitely speaking from a place of 100% second hand experience (and how I feel with my own ADHD), however I feel like Abbie feels like Isiah is at school/out with friends/just not in the house. And that's how each moment and day are. He's not here right now, okay. With ADHD, I have trouble with time that is not yesterday, today, or tomorrow. Everything other than that, is the same amount of time. I don't miss people (even my parents) intensely, I saw them in the past sometime, and I will see them again in the future sometime. I am unable to gauge the exact amount of time that creates missing someone or looking forward to a far future date. I feel like she may notice that she hasn't seen him for a few days, but it may always feel like a few days....not the weeks and months. And yes, she will definitely be so happy to see him when he comes home.

I just want to say thank you for your service Asa. My husband is a combat vet. He enlisted because of 9/11. Just out of high-school. Did 18 months in Iraq. He should not be here. While he survived his convoy attacks, many of his friends did not. Our vets are heroes too. It makes me sad with every thing going on, that this is what my husband fought for. And we cannot remember. Again, thank you. 🙏

They make a spray called scratch out that keeps them from scratching walls and furniture. They sell it at Walmart. Well worth the investment. Get it and spray where you don’t want her to scratch. My cat doesn’t scratch anything other than his scratcher.

I was 6 years old on 9/11 and I remember my mom coming to pick all of us up from school but I had no idea why. I don't think I really understood what happened or how devastating it was at first. My mom is big on saving newspaper clippings so she has a lot for 9/11 in an album, as well as the anniversary articles. I'll never forget.
