Here is a theory: When Charles asked Jim for a rundown of his clients, he was preparing to fire Jim and have a plan in place to retain his clients and divvy them up to the sales staff. Jim literally saved his job by not knowing what a rundown was and then faxing it to his dad instead of the distro list.

Woah I had never thought of that but I feel like that would have been in a deleted scene or something like that. Maybe once the office ladies podcast gets to that they might have some insight about script changes.

Wallace would have never let it happen. He likes Jim too much, personally and professionally. Charles would have needed the reason of all reasons to fire Jim. The rundown bit is just highlighting Jim's tendency to be uncomfortable when challenged or when he's not able to drive the joke/conversation. You see it again in the Finer Things Club and at the party at David Wallace's house.

I feel like Michael in season 1 wasn't a likable character. So season 2 and on wasn't flanderization but rather making him more likable.
@JennaLeigh3 жыл бұрын
That's been discussed and confirmed by writers numerous times. Ricky Gervais played it unlikable and awful, which was fine for 12 episodes. But because they wanted the American version to last longer, and American audiences won't tolerate an entirely awful character, the writers scaled back Michael's unlikability in S2 by showing the others treat him better, showing Michael being optimistic rather than just oblivious.

@conniethesconnie3 жыл бұрын
Season 2 was the best. The British Office only ran two seasons this ment the writers were running out of source material to steal Ala Game of Thrones. They did an excellent job of adapting for a US audience and improving upon the original but once they had to come up with original scripts from scratch. Well thought out story lines disappeared as all the characters were involved in their own subplots that didn't really coordinate with each other. Not knowing how to write about boring life in an office they suddenly needed a slew of office romances to drive the plot. Observational humor which came from the storyline disappeared. To make up for that they had to insert slapstick based on people being stupid and clumsy. All that was missing to make this like Friends or any other cheesy 80's sitcom was a laugh track.

Most shows run their course between 5 and 10 seasons. It wasn’t that bad, but the cracks started showing after Michael left. It became unbelievable that the business would be still running, let alone dominating the market. That could be explained by Kevin being a fraudulent genius, just playing dumb in case he is caught, so he can claim incompetence. They could have saved the show and done more if they had added reasons it was going off the deep end. Like, I feel like a few of the characters could be explained away as ‘playing it up for the cameras,’ drugs, or going off their meds due to insurance changes, but I think the producers and writers were ready to move on, and more interested in getting views and wrapping things up, than the quality of content.
@berkerk95792 жыл бұрын
I think there is simply nothing behind all these characters' shenanigans. Office was a big hit and producers wanted to keep it going for a long time. After a while, it may have gotten much more difficult to keep jokes at a sane and natural level. So writers may have began to turn up the volume just like that. Maybe they have just tried to make it last a bit more longer all the time.

He then died of hunger and dehydration and never actually returned to Scranton. The Office never saw him again. Andy spent his last days alive having a fever dream about his friends but also not letting himself look like the good guy even in his dream since he is guilty for killing Walter and wants Erin to end up with someone so he picks Pete and idt the office would really owe Andy that much to call him Plop but Andys mind decided to keep that. I think what really happened was the show stopped being funny the minute Michael left. It also seems like there were different writers at that point. Or shortly before that point. It was utterly unwatchable without Michael. And putting Andy in charge was a horrendous mistake. Even Jim and Pam became unwatchable. (Almost) all comedies make this egregious error: They turn a perfectly funny comedy into a dramedy by having the characters "evolve" in some way. The genius of Seinfeld was the fact that the characters were exactly who they were on the series finale as they were in the pilot. Once you start having drama that lasts longer than one episode, you have jumped the shark. The Office seasons 1-5 = pure gold, seasons 6-finale = garbage.

I don't think the show took an unnatural path... in the beginning they were all new to being in front of the camera and it shows... most of the actors/actresses anyway. Michael on season 1 could be thought of as trying to impress the camera and just comes across as facetious. As the show continues they get more comfortable and their true silliness comes out at times and the show is edited (even within the show) to showcase those moment, must like any actual "reality show" which is what it is since we never see the actual doc. You'll notice that in the moments when they don't know the camera is on them, their personalities change substantially. Jim loses his prankster attitude, michael becomes more depressed and less petulant. Phyllis is always phyllis... angela is basically always angela except for her infidelity and cat licking fetish. Andy had a nervous breakdown and instead of being treated he was sent to anger management. From that moment on he has a personality issue. He even tells us when he wants everyone to call him Drew. Daryl didn't spend much time upstairs so we don't really get an idea of who he is pre-moving upstairs, same as the rest of the warehouse folks. Kevin does seem to become less sophisticated but if you think about the episode where he decides it's easier to speak with his gardener by using broken english, it's reasonable to assume that he at some point decides his life would be easier if he just acts dumber. Dwight goes from seemingly not understanding deception and trickery to fully understanding it and participating in it. Pam goes from being Roy's door mat to being someone domineering in her relationship with Jim. It's framed in a way that makes her character unappealing in the later seasons. She simply doesn't seem to care about Jim's dreams even after he championed hers.

Lmao these theories are reaching to put it light. Andy clearly didn't sink in the sumo suit. Do they have to play out every single scene? That would make the series hours longer per episode and would be ridiculous to have to explain everything that happens in every episode.

I think that the characters got increasing erratic because the office was received well by audiences so the directors learnt and improved the comedy in the show

Toby says radon is coming from the ground and there's asbestos in the ceiling. So radon poisoning should be worse in the warehouse. Maybe it's asbestos poisoning. Aruba, Aruba.

Yeah....maybe...I guess I assumed there was the front portion of the building which is dedicated to office space, and then some Warehouse sections in the back of the building. Maybe the wide open spaces have less effect?
