First off, you should note somewhere that you're tuned down half a step, so as not to confuse anyone. Secondly, this lesson was amazing - not only did you teach me a ton of new, BEAUTIFUL chords (I cannot stress that out enough), but you incidentally also managed to teach me drop thumb, which is something I struggled with for the longest time. THANK YOU!

12D3 dude I am also struggling with drop thumb. Getting consistency is pretty frustrating. What did you do?

Sarenth Well, as far as consistency goes nothing beats practice. Sorry if that's boring, but it's true! What I was struggling with was understanding the "concept" of drop thumb. However, what I always found extremely helpful when learning new guitar/banjo things is: GO SLOW. I mean it, somethimes i even go as far as playing string by string. Also, try to play the "cleanest" you can, if you hit teo strings instead of just one, keep trying until you get a clean, single sound. Speed and consistency will build up on that, believe me. Once you get the concept of drop thumb, a few hours of slow, attentive playing will go a loooooong way in helping you out :) Good luck!

Thank you - thank you! This has to be one of the greatest banjo lessons here on KZbin. Thank you so much for making it free. The beautiful chord progressions in C really helps open the door to improvisation for me. Since I'm a beginner, fretting is very difficult, plus I don't like the resulting stunted sound. Your showing an open string alternative is a liberating-in more ways than one!! :D You've included so many other goodies too - like how to go from major to minor and the different plucking options you suggest are also challenging and very fun to learn. Can't thank you enough.

Just for the fun of it : To all here trying these chords: try leaving the forth string open for some of your runs as you are the second string (so strong double Cs all the way through this exercize ) . Makes for a nice open twist to all this .. Great lesson Lukas .. Adding the second position C major here also can do a lot .. ring on first string 5th fret index second string fouth fret .Middle finger third string fifth Fret :) Great stuff Lukas .. !!

I cut out and glue on ping pong balls for my index finger. They are easy to pop on and off and sound great. I wear through my own nails really quickly and wood working takes its toll as well. Thanks Primaveranz

Your banjo sounds like its tuned a half step down. Am I right on that? Or am I missing something?

He said/ video says that hes on Double C tuning. . ( G,C,G,C,D) . The most standard type of tuning to a 5 string banjo which I'm sure ur in is a Open G tuning( G,D,G,B D) . Difference. Okay cool .
