Lesson 3: How to play 'Saptak' - Sa Re Ga Ma Pa DHa Ni in flute/ Bansuri

In previous two lesson we discussed the elementary points about playing bamboo flute like how to hold and blow a flute and how to play primary notes. In this lesson we enter the grammatical stage of flute playing. After finishing this lesson, one will learn how to play 'Saptak' ie the basic seven notes Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni. The seventh degree of the solmisation scale is actually si, not ti. I have heard Americans say ti but I don't know where they got that from and it is also irrelevant. Traditional solfège is ut re mi fa sol la (hexachord), then si was added as the seventh degree of a heptatonic scale. Still later (in the 17th century) ut was replaced by do, apparently out of a whim. Just in case you are interested. Thank you for the videos you post!

However I didnot get guidance and I tried and found difficult. And also I did not get any teacher nearby to join and due to family responsibilities I dont get to go for classes at all. I thought I will never be able to learn. I saw many videos, Your videos are making it easy and nicely explained. I have been practicing two days now. My left thumb pains as I think I am holding it tight. Not sure if the hold should be tight. I am new to Sargam also, as I dont know to read music however I think with time I will learn.
