In this class we begin learning Raag Bhairav (राग भैरव). Bhairav has all seven notes with Re and Dha being Komal or flat notes. It is a Raag which is often used to do Riyaz or practice of the notes. Most of the class is dedicated to doing Riyaz in this Raag. All the Swar Alankar (स्वर अलंकार) from Lessons 1 and 2 can be done in Raag Bhairav. We practice some of these and some additional ones. First, I am not a composer. I can improvise within a raag and bandish, but I don't compose songs. So please read my answer with that in mind. If the lyrics are portraying a particular mood, you will use a raag based on that mood. To do that however, you will need to first learn many raags before you can decide on which raag to base your lyrics on. Does this make sense?
