It's amazing how many areas we cover, even in basic English. Today Jennifer discussed the to be verb, the verb-subject agreement, the past tense and helped the students learn the names for many THINGS. Things! Things? Yes, things. This is a super tip to cover yourself when you forget what something is called. Use 'thing' to name the noun: Pass these things over to me. I like this thing here. My book is next to various things. What is this thing called in English?
@Englishwithjennifer5 жыл бұрын
You could add words like "thingamabob" and "doodad." Got anymore? How about "thingamajigger" or just plain "thingy"? :)
@stunninglad15 жыл бұрын
@@Englishwithjennifer Another one is a doofer. Thingy is actually better than thing. Students need to be a bit careful with the use of 'thing' as it can sound derogatory: ""What on earth is that thing?" "It's not what I wanted, but I'll make use of this thing somehow!" "Jennifer has a new car and Ray has that thing over there." It is not so much the word as how it is said. It reminds me of the time I went on a date claiming to be someone who could float a lady away. "Sorry, Ra,y" said the lady, "I wanted a dreamboat, not a shipwreck." Huh!

For us Brazilian learners sometimes it is so hard to distinguish the meaning of the verb to be in English. We have two different verbs to describe the action in the present tense. We need to pay attention on the context. It was a nice video. Thanks

They have to listen to more spoken English. They have to get used to the rhythm of natural English. Due to it they are struggling of saying basic words.

Yes, it can be a challenge to immerse yourself more in a language. We meet only once a week, and sometimes we have to skip a week. But music, TV, etc. all helps with exposure. This was filmed during our third session. As the series progresses, you'll hear them speak with more confidence. They're coming along nicely! :)
