Just to let you know… Amos Garrett, who originally played the song… Is alive and well here in November 2023 and I spoke to him the other day and he was practising lots as he had some corporate gigs at Christmas this year!

Your using terms I don' know, like "play it square". And another word you referred to the next Emaj7 becomes a "p......" I don't know the word you used or what it refers to. Other than that I like the lesson. Thanks
@DavesGuitarChannel2 жыл бұрын
Play it square means play on the downbeats. Push the chord or saying it is played on the push means that instead of it coming in on one, it comes on 4 and off the previous bar. So 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 And, the chord will fall on the and. Technically in music this is called an anticipation. Playing the note or chord an 8th note early. The slang term for an anticipation is a push. In a song that has frequent pushes, when you say play it square, You are saying, play the chords on 1. Hope that clears it up.
@steve60.2 жыл бұрын
@@DavesGuitarChannel Thanks for taking the time to respond to my dumbness it really helps. I had never heard those terms before. Oh well, even at my age, (which I won't mention at this time) I still have learning to do.
@mattfoley60826 ай бұрын
What's a "push"?
@DavesGuitarChannel6 ай бұрын
A push is another word for anticipation. So instead of a chord starting on the downbeat of 1, it comes early on the upbeat of 4 and.

@@DavesGuitarChannel I'm 62 years old. Been a bass player for 40 years and never heard that term until now. LOVE this song! Those chords are delicious.
