Hi Friends,
There is a BIG difference between singing and being sung. To be sung requires that we let go of the fears judgments and comparisons.
and sing like you sang when you were three years old,
before you began to sedate and silence yourself. Before you began to sever the connection to the Brilliance, the radiance that was seeping from your pours oh so effortlessly.
And we want to unearth this brilliance, but we can’t do it by just talking about it. We get to be about it.
This next year, our theme is Toast and Jam.
And I know you might be thinking what the heck does toast and jam have to do with anything?
Many years ago, I pitched this idea of Toast and Jam to our friend Cathy Richardson, the singer from Jefferson Starship. The idea was to get people to make toasts, speeches, or stories like Toast Masters and then add some jam to it with her music.
Cathy liked the concept, but no one liked the name, Toast and Jam, so it became Voice Box, which has now been running for over ten years of stories and song! And it’s good.
But Recently, I was gifted some homemade jam from Olive McDougha, one of our amazing musicians and the owner of Butterfly Cottage in Ireland.
I took the homemade jam home, and I cherished it like it was raspberry gold,
and spread it on my toast, which I got from a bakery on Madeline Island.
As I ate the toast and jam, I remembered the beautiful breakfast in Ireland, with Mia, Clive and, Lou and, Gillian, Yvonne, Martina… and the rest of the Irish cousins,
and I remembered my other pals in Ireland at the Homecoming retreat, and in my mind, I was feasting on the delicious memories of how they serve not just toast and jam but something so much more sacred, stories and songs and poetry
my soul craved that extra special sauce, that soulful nourishment of the creative community.
Of kitchen concerts and
livingroom lyrics
and the type of stories and songs that make you dance in your pajamas around the table.
So I figured it was time to take the mic back from the professionals and stir up a little homegrown music and musings, if only once a month, in your neck of the woods.
So, as we close out the year of Service that Sings, we are moving into our theme for the New Year: Toast and Jam. You will be invited and encouraged to join us for breakfast, where we break our fast and feast on the miraculous mana of homegrown music.
We join small groups to re-honor and re-own our words, our will, our way.
Even if the world may be falling apart, we can boldly be the musicians on the Titanic, defiantly creating despite the storms.
Because, as my father showed me all those years ago, it is in the storm that stories can be like life preservers to drowning souls like me. This is my father’s legacy, and this is SpeakEasy’s Dan.
This type of spiritual practice can lift the weary and wounded that can save us all from going under,
and can call home even the most steadfast wanderer.
So this November 17th, Our 11th anniversary, we are hosting our first Toast and Jam at my home as a fundraiser for SpeakEasy. And if you want to help us, spread the jam on some toast, you can host a small gathering at your home too.
All you need is a few friends.
Each month, we will release a theme song, which you can send to your friends and family as an invitation to toast and jam with you. Even the most shy among us can engage in a sing-a-long.
Our first song for November is “I’d like to teach the world to sing… in perfect harmony.”
Maybe we can actually,
if not, teach the world to sing,
we can encourage a few drummers, hummers, poets, and pop stars.
And maybe open the hearts of a few wallflowers
Who have been waiting
For the permission to bloom.
The concept is simple: We gather in each other’s homes, in small groups, once a month, and we bring a song or a story and something to smear on the toast.
And we break bread together.
Toasted bread and all types of jam, or avocado toast, for the healthier among us, or creme cheese and lox, for those who want to give the nod to the old loves and fishes.
We hope this calls people back home to connect with each other.
My dad would have loved this.
So, if you want to be a part of it, you can join us for the planning and visioning, even if you do not live in the area. If you think you want to host or be connected with a host in your area, that meeting will take place in two weeks.
We want to call people home.

Your video quality is very nice. And the contents are also quality. But your videos have very low SEO score and are not being optimized properly, due to which the videos are not reaching your intended audience. I can help you with this if you want . Thank You .
