I recently had to fit new bearings in the double cardan joint on my Land Rover front driveshaft and yes, getting the centre bearings in is indeed "tricky". I don't know if they're all like this, but the Land Rover one also has a spring in the centre of the double joint which makes keeping all the bearings aligned, whilst at the same time trying to keep the spring compressed and get the spider in, "very tricky".

Whenever I fit u joint caps if I knock them even slightly the damn needle bearings all end up in the end of the cap. You can push the cross piece into the cap one side to prevent it but when it comes to the other side it’s the same deal. Always use a vice to gently press them in now.

I need this slip sleeve setup. My front end has a lot of droop, even with the 6.5" spline currently. I'm afraid of it separating and tearing up the truck.

There's no better shaft then a woody shaft that's for sure. My last Cherokee had a tom woods shaft in it and never had an issues.

It's not just being out of balance that can cause drive shafts to vibrate. If the pinion angles aren't equal but opposite then the changes in velocity as the shaft rotates can cause vibration. This is a problem that quite often happens when vehicles are lifted and the angles of the drive shaft joints are changed. It's also why shafts that are designed to operate with unequal angles have a double cardan joint instead of a single one.

Do y’all make make one for an hilux surf 2LT engine swapped into a 83 hilux stock shaft? Transfer case is 30 spline and the shaft is the odd rectangle pattern.

That was actually just a continuity error with filming. We did put the spring in, there's a quick shot where you can see it has disappeared from the bench. But also the spring isn't actually necessary, depending on who you ask.

It would be interesting to have them spin up a home made square shaft that someone made just to show how horrible they are and the loads on the pinion and case bearings. Since there are still lots of guys that think those are just fine🤣
