No we hadn't, this is about the celebration of the life of a great sportsman. He was one of the best if not the best in the world. Respect for a passing not bitterness .

*Lester Piggot was hated by fellow jockeys, he was disliked, unsociable, miserable and never mixed. well known for phoning trainers of horses he thought would win to offer them his services, the stable jockey lost the mount and riding fees. The £500 cash bung went on for years, he accumulated £20 m in Switzerland, got 3-years served one, and is being buried in Switzerland which indicates a great deal. Give me Susan Armstrong-(wife) Fred Archer, Gorden Richards, Willie Carson, Frankie Dettori, Joe Sime, Manny Mercer and Joe Mercer 2810 winners, Frankie Durr and the legendary Bill Shoemaker 8833 winners. Piggott was never awarded a Knighthood, he got the OBE, which was removed after his conviction for fraud.*

Was he admired, respected and loved? He dumped his wife of 52 years, Susan Armstrong a trainer's daughter and ran off with a woman to Switzerland and being buried there, he had another mistress who bore him a son, so we need to ask was England good to him, and did he return this love?. I must compare him to Gordon Richards, A P McCoy, Steve Cauthen, Bill Shoemaker, Harry Wragg, Manny Mercer, Joe Mercer, Yves St Martin, and 100 more and he was not fit to shine their shoes, I saw him throw a child's autograph book on the ground and walk off . This action on Epsom Racecourse revealed the real Piggot, in effect, he was saying to this small child F-off. You Judge him. Ask around, he was hated and that's a fact?*

@@iancarpenter6298 Try and be more objective and accurate, Piggot rode for approx 40 years and was the UK champion jockey for 11-years, so you can claim for 11- years Piggot was the best jockey in the UK, but not worldwide (there were 4-better jockeys in the USA). But the picture alters when you ask was he a fine citizen, a good person, well-liked and gentle or kind to others including his wife Susan Armstrong and children, or was he scrooge-like, grasping and greedy. Unfortunately, Piggot came into this last group, his fellow jockeys hated him for it, so what you have is a good jockey who was hated by fellow riders, workers and racecourse crews, one who would NOT bung a fiver to a Sporting life newspaper seller, or the girl who mucked out the horses he rode and won on? A better person comparison list is Wm Shoemaker. AP McCoy, Gordon Richards, Frankie Dettori, Pat Eddery, Frankie Durr, Joe Sime, Manny Mercer, Joe Mercer and many others.
