Really impressed by Mark's objectivity re: VAR. Unfortunately the suggestions that Liverpool are 'playing the victim' or 'taking it too far' in the comment section represent the kind of tribalism that will prevent fans from seeing the bigger picture. What happened to Liverpool was a structural failure that could easily have happened (or will happen) to any club, not some once-off individual mistake. Really hope that we can demand some kind of accountability for it (a replay would be nice, but insufficient as a solution to the problem) but the way the media has spun this into 'Liverpool being sore losers' worries me.

On the matter of Liverpool, if the FA and PGMOL really have good intention they should've start a discussion on how to provide a settlement and resolution for these kind of issue moving forward that can be implemented to the league as fast as next season. There are a lots of rule they can add, such as the officiating rules can be ruled out mid game for grave error, officiating bodies should pay fines for incompetence behavior in a PROFESSSIONAL FOOTBALL, allowing team to make an appeal after the game for clear officiating error, replay system, result revoke system, or whatever i'm not saying these are the best solutions but at least TALK ABOUT SOME SOLUTION IN CASE THIS HAPPEN AGAIN IN THE FUTURE SO CLUBS NOT LOSING POINTS AND MONEY FOR NOTHING, ask for the opinion of all stakeholders (which is must include clubs, fans, players). I agree, other instances where handballs are called incorrectly aren't that egregious because the referee genuinely believed it was the right call. In Liverpool's case, the VAR team knew it was onside and still didn't award a goal. They did this on PURPOSE, which is different to a mistake because a mistake isn't intentional. The magnitude of the failure shouldn't be blindsided by the media and what Liverpool is asking for is valid.

As a Liverpool supporter I salute you, Mark In totally honesty: I don't care about transparency, apology or investigation. I want the result erased and a re-match, period. When did the statute of limitations for winning by unfair means begin? The disallowed goal was not the only unfair incident. Jota's first yellow card should not have happened. He didn't touch the player. Salah's yellow card was a joke. It was very unlucky how Jones' foot rolled over the ball and into the leg of the Tottenham player, but the referee didn't even watch the whole sequence but a still image of Jones hitting the player's leg. Why did all this happen against Liverpool? I don't know anything about possible match-fixing, but what I do know is that Tottenham's win is by unfair means.

The mistake is inexcusable. They were in the room to exclude the errors on the field. And by the way it goes, Liverpool scoring a goal was the error in their minds...And now, I'm not sure if Liverpool scoring goals is legal.

I will look at what English Cricket is doing. They were no where in ICC tournaments 5 years ago, always also rans just like the football team. Then their board woke up, selected 3 different teams based on whether the players are good in T20 ODI or Tests. And suddenly they have won every ICC tournament the can in the past 5 years.

VAR: Not being able to celebrate properly is a good point, as in sad, not a good point for VAR. Of course, the goal incident was a terrible mistake. The game has been full of them over the years long before VAR. The Pedro Mendez goal being disallowed as an example. The mistakes have been part and parcel of the game (sadly). Without VAR in the Spurs vs Liverpool game, the goal would still have been disallowed (unfortunately) as it was disallowed onfield, but Liverpool would probably only had one man sent off.

Daren England not being able to ref liverpool games for an honest mistake while were going to get card happy simon hooper next week shows exactly what the problem with the PGMOL is. It just wont ever get better

Not only have PGMOL managed to get out of this without having to make any (accountable) concessions, they also established precedents for future instances of the like. Which manager is gonna speak up now, when you are on recording spouting stuff like 'move on', 'accept it' etc. This stuff would make Machiavelli blush.

Completely agree with you Mark. Agree about the media, agree about England and Southgate, agree with everything you said. Big business is sucking the life out of football. The game is a shadow of what is was a decade or two ago.
