a black widow spider devours her mate because the mate has nothing else to offer her (the egg making process will be energy consuming and a significant burden so she hungy). Some males have been observed offering food to distract/appease their prospective mate long enough for them to gtfo. Basically, our dude has a chance but he better be a damn good cook.

That's actually a very common trait in the insect kingdom. Many spiders and mantises do this. Probably several other predatory species. And it's not a guarantee either. Even without an adequate "appeasement" offer, that only happens about 30% of the time. Not uncommon, but it's not the norm either.

I’d assume the silk she produced has a anti-bacterial effect to it, mostly for use on herself. It may also be quite good for binding wounds as well I suppose.

Its common among Spiders, Spiders aren't Social Creatures and usually only Pair up to mait, Females usually when not on heat or after mating see males as Prey, From an Evolutionary stand point this is so the Mother can better provide nutrients to her young as Males after mating typically die reguardless thanks to scenecens.
