Chycho, thank you so much for making these videos. I am almost 50 and still love reading and collecting comics. I really dig your enthusiasm for the hobby. Can't wait for your comic reads. Take care brother.

Hope your enjoying your break Chycho. I've been frequenting my local comic shops lately. Been picking up a lot of the titles you've been sharing with us. I'm really into the Sandman arcs. I feel like I'm being told a story in a traditional sense. Very mythical feel to them. Among other titles in my collection I'm really enjoying the Eternal Warrior, The Black Monday Murders, Animosity, Dr. Manhattan, and Divinity 2 is really great . The shop I go to has a really good deal on back issues. Buy one, get one free. So much good reading out there!!
@chycho7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Zareh, definitely enjoying the break. Cool about the comics, lots of great reads there. Sandman is absolutely brilliant, as are the other books in my opinion, and what a great deal on the back issues. Basically it's a permanent 50% off sale... very nice, wish my shops had that going all the time. As for my reads right now, on this break I'm actually reading Rachel Rising by Terry Moore. I bought the omnibus and I'm about half way through right now. It's a great read if you like funny-horror-mythology type of story. Since you like Sandman's feel, you might enjoy this as well. I'm going to try and finish it by the end of my break :)

a new comic book video! i adore these, chycho. can't tell you how many times you've helped me get to sleep peacefully, despite my noisy neighbors. i started getting back into "mainstream," corporately-produced comics because of your videos, specifically the valiant ebay haul/review. ultimately, i just couldn't invest in valiant. i also tried a lot of the anad marvel stuff, but have since dropped everything but vision, which is concluding this week, and black widow, which i'm also thinking of dropping. enjoyed the #1's of cage, jessica jones, and millar's reborn from a few weeks ago, though. king's batman is the only rebirth title i've stuck with. in issue #1, i believe batman was trying to prevent the plane from crashing, attempting to save lives, not just riding it. after a year of trying to find my way back into reading "comics" comics, southern bastards is the only book that consistently impresses me. perhaps i should just stick with the classics. :) anyway, thank you for your videos!
@chycho8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the love, Roy, I do immensely enjoy making these as well. I've heard amazing things about Vision and did pick up the early issues, just haven't got around to reading them. Guess I'll be trading reading the whole series (as well as Moon Knight) when it's done. Same with Southern Bastards, I picked up the early issues but just didn't get to reading them. There are just too many great books to read and not enough time in a day... on the bright side we'll have plenty of great back issues to read during our golden age... hehe :) As for batman, don't get me wrong, it was a good issue and I loved the ending with Batman's "Clark" comment and how they introduced the new characters, just didn't grab me the way Valiants have. I can also appreciate if it's not your thing, that's why Image is doing so well, superhero universes are not the be all and end all of comic books, not by a long shot. As for the classics, hope you enjoy the ones coming up for the reading set, they should be fun :)

thanks, looking forward!

Hi Chycho. Just recently got into comics, and I love hearing your commentary on the different new issues you've been reading. I've been a big fan of Image stuff recently, (especially Remender, just picked up all the issues of Low!) and this video gave me some new titles to check out. Thanks for the video, you're a cool dude!

You're very welcome, Garrett, and a great pick up with Low. I've put it on my radar as well. Peace, and happy reading :)

Awesome, awesome video, Chycho. I love checking out what modern comics you are into. Please do one of these videos every 3 months or so. I have been collecting a lot of indies, because of all the #1's, as well. Unfortunately, at times, my LCBS either doesn't get certain titles, doesn't continue past first several issues, or doesn't order variants. You get a good mix of variants, and you are correct about the prices going sky high if you have to end up ordering on eBay. Keep the comics videos coming, please.
@chycho8 жыл бұрын
Will do, TQ, and that's a pretty good idea, doing one of these videos every three to four months or so. I'll see what I can do, maybe do one when I get close to filling a long box. Would be fun. Thanks for the suggestion :)

After reading the two issues of the new Doom Patrol series I'm very excited. Beautiful artwork by Nick Derington and evocative, dream-logical Morrisonian script by Gerard Way. I think Doom Patrol and Manifest Destiny are my favorite on-going series.

Chycho's comic book store is extremely lucky to have a customer such as him :-) "The Electric Sublime" from IDW looks very promising (I haven't read it but it's on my "to-buy" list): www.idwpublishing.com/product/electric-sublime-1/ Speaking of the sublime: If there's one comic I recommend from the last few years, it's Grant Morrison/Frank Quitely's astonishing "Pax Americana" (2014, part 4 of "Multiversity") Some of Multiversity's issues with low print-run covers (e.g. Grant's sketch covers) are also collectible!

Hi Chycho. Thanks for all your efforts. What's your opinion on the massive interest in comic books by Hollywood producers? Is the level of comic book characters being made into films and TV series good for the comic book industry?
@chycho8 жыл бұрын
I think it's a good thing, but that doesn't mean I agree with everything they are doing. When comic books were pulled from news stands, i.e. they were only available through direct market specialty stores, then the comic book industry pretty much tried to kill itself. By doing this they stopped new readers from entering the market since most kids didn't see them in their lives anymore. They weren't in grocery stores, in gas stations, in news stands, in 7/11's, in corner stores, etc... that's where most kids would usually be exposed to comic books for the first time and a select few would become life time buyers and lovers of the medium. By going to film, comic book characters and the universes they exist in are now being introduced to a lot more people. I think this is a good thing in general. How they are doing it is another story :)

I'd recommend picking up the wonder woman rebirth book by Greg Rucka. it is amazing. he is examining wonder woman's origins and combining aspects of her golden age with her more modern incarnations, as well as doing modern stories, with a cheetah arc just wrapped up. and it's only 2.99, I believe
@chycho8 жыл бұрын
I did grab the first three issues but haven't got to reading them yet. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll keep it in mind when I run across them again when going through the boxes. And yup, they are $2.99 which is awesome.

a few comics I'd love to get your opinion on. Sweet Tooth by Jeff Lemire, unbelievable in my opinion. Southern Bastards by Jason Aaron is incredible. Y the Last Man by Brian K Vaughn is also fantastic. Preacher by Garth Enis. check them out if you haven't they are all outstanding. thanks for the video
@Justin_Pierce8 жыл бұрын
also Providence by Alan Moore is amazing. Can't believe I forgot it.
@chycho8 жыл бұрын
Great books, from what I've read, and incredible creators. I love Lemire's work but I haven't read Sweet Tooth yet. I have and loved the first couple of issues of Southern Bastards but haven't kept up with it. I've read much of Y the Last Man and Preacher but still haven't finished them. As for Providence, for some reason I didn't pick it up. I think it was the mood I was in at the time, just wasn't in the mind set for Moore at the time. You got great taste, me like :)

chycho They release monthly, so the the issues are about twice as long with a side story centred on Duke/Lark. Maybe waiting a couple of months for a few more issues to realise will be more worth the video!
