Let me tune you about the VW Tiguan R

I can't say I am all that convinced by performance-based family SUVs and all, and I do love the VW Tiguan and am not sure it requires any more oomph. However, if someone gifted me the Tiguan R I think I would be pretty chuffed. Except for the hard ride, but otherwise, I might just be convinced that a Tiguan R is all I need.

That Lapiz Blue in A Tiguan is Mooi. Even the facelift R Line in the Blue looks good with the 20 inch Suzuka Rims is nice. This is expensive but it's still cheaper than rivals from BMW & Merc plus it's the range topper. I'll settle for the 162kw R Line. Good enough. Fast enough. Looking for that Lapiz Blue as a Vinyl Wrap for my 2019 Model. Colours available don't come close.

@Imran, totally agree. I have the 162kw facelifted, great performance for everyday driving. The 20inch rims cause a lot of tyre noise though.. I couldn’t get the blue so settled for white.

infotainment is crap. Car is very good. I think I will upgrade to the R model for a year before gaining an RS3 eventually

So I have this car on test at the moment and the performance exhaust WAS R69k and then yesterday I was back on the configurator and suddenly it's R73k 😕

I love these things. The price is a bit difficult to swallow though. That, and the 150000km odd lifespan of VW’s rapid shifting DSG transmission.

100 % Although 150 000 is pushing it 90 000 to 100 000 i would say on a big heavy car like this

I have driven my Golf 7 R up to 170000km with no single problem gearbox service strictly at the dealership so I don't know with given up problem you taking about and friends who owned GTI drove it past 200000km never experience any problem

The only thing I'm thinking about besides the price is how often you'll have to straighten/repair those massive low profile rims on Gauteng roads. Don't get me wrong. Love the look of them, but I don't know if anything but a 60 profile on our roads will do these days, or at least lessen the damage. This thing is made for billiard table European roads.

I did 8 tyres and 4 rim repair in 12 months with 40's in jhb.. so yeah

@@emiledutoit9434 I have 18 inch rims with low profile tyres, had the car since Oct and have done 3 rims. Luckily the tyres are runflat so the side walls are quite strong, otherwise I'm 100% sure I would've had to replace a few tyres too.

There doing what Subaru did with the Forester XT turbo. They saw Subaru exit the market and turn to their peasent piss weak hybrid and VW pounced on a mid size suv that looks better and performs better. Anyone who doesn't understand performance suvs shouldn't be looking at one.

I was going to say exactly that and you beat me to it. I own two XTs - SG9 and the fourth and final iteration. I’d sooner buy a Tiguan R than a normally aspirated Subaru Forester if I was buying new. Nothing more usable, fun, and practical than a performance all wheel drive vehicle with clearance.
