I will likely edit this comment as I've just started the video. First thing is I think those instruction images may be photographs not renders. 11 min in. - those cable holders aren't welded thin steel like a jack clamp. So PE is a bad option if you can see inside the piece where the negative space is. But as I said. That is how jack clamps on StuG etc. Were manufactured. 15 min, thanks for not cast texturing the periscope covers. I forgot to leave my final comment. This was lovely to watch and as always concise and sensible. You're one of the few people I still enjoy watching.
@Panzermeister363 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I won't be using those PE cable clamps again. The 3D printed ones I have from MJ are far superior. And I know what you mean with the periscope covers. Everyone thinks they're cast parts when they are just a bent piece of metal.

Been awhile, but; you came back with a bang. I built a Dragon Tiger Initial Production that I had in the stash for 10 years or so, recently. Some of the Magic Tracks (about 10% is my guess) were molded in mirror images of what they actually should have been. No way to use them. I managed to scrap together just enough to do the tank. I had to use the mirrors as the spares mounted on the tank. Probably not noticeable, but; I probably lucked out having enough. First Dragon kit I ever had that had a major error in it.
@Panzermeister363 жыл бұрын
That sounds very strange. But for a Dragon kit, I'm also not surprised. I'm glad to hear you were still able to finish the project in the end though! I've built that kit but I used metal tracks....I wonder if the plastic tracks in my kit have the same issue....
@stephenbridges27913 жыл бұрын
@@Panzermeister36 It's possible, I suppose. The thing for me was, I bought that back in the early 2000's. Kept it in my stash well over 10 years, maybe even 15. By the time I decided to build it, it was too late to exchange or anything like that. There were 2 bags of the Magic Tracks and, if i remember correctly; all the "mirrored" ones came out of one bag. I haven't seen that kit in awhile, either. It was the one that had the camera man figure in it. There were some other fit issues, too. Dragon, of course; is not Tamiya. They have an extremely large selection of sometimes unusual subjects. I usually don't have a lot of trouble with them, but; the "mirrored" issue was unusual. To say the least.

Love watching Your builds of the Dragon kits. It is very helpful to see how You assemble the photo etch clamps. I envy Your nimble fingers and the ease at which You can hold these miniscule parts and fold them without destroying them. I built this very same kit, but the results were not so satisfactory. My fingers are huge and i have nerve damage, and handling these damnable photo etch parts is almost impossible. Most of them diappeared into the thick pile of carpet in my study, after i helplessly fumbled trying to fold and assemble the clamp components, and ultimately dropped every one. Sometimes this hobby causes me such aggravation, which i pursued becaue right now i have a lot of unstructured time and i wanted to occupy myself in some way. But, iam getting better at each kit i complete, and i am enjoying it more as result. That's why i appreciate Your videos. They have immensely helped me with all Your tips and insights . Thank You! Because of my inexperience, i find he cursed photo etch so despicable, and invariably end up ruining it and gluing my fingers together in the process.

To add on the metal file. If you're really scared of overdoing it (shaking hands, poor eyesight, etc) you can knock most of the excess out with the metal file and leave the smallest excess to the sanding sponge. Works like a charm for me with unsteady hands, really cuts the work time significantly.

I'n gunna get meself one o them exact Dragon kits one day for sure now mate! - now that I've seen what you've done with yours, it's just superb! - And nice & big too compared most 35th scale tanks! I love the torch cut idea so simple & effective! (whoops,I nearly said safe & effective hehe!). I'm currently trying a method of gluing the individual track links together on my Trumpeter T62. I made a 300mm channel from 3 strips of 3mm aluminium just taped together with masking tape. The channel was the exact width of the track links so they could be linked together & kept straight. Holding the tracks down with the straight edge of a 2 inch strip of aluminium I pushed the tracks together & taped them together with some 3mm Tamiya masking tape, an inch at a time, closing all the gaps & keeping the links straight & parallel. A run of the 3mm tape either side of the guide horns makes the track almost workable, so that I can wrap it round & add sag & glue the section of track links together in the correct position. Just a dab of Tamiya extra thin on each end of the links to start with just to hold them together. Let dry for a day & then came back to fully glue all the track links together after carefully removing all the tape. The tracklink section becomes one piece then, so it can be painted & weathered separately & then finally glued to the other completed track sections on the tank. When I'm done with making all the track sections I can just pull the masking tape off the aluminium channel device, throw away the tape & then I can re-use the aluminium strips again for the next tracklink build. Well, I didn't know any other way to do them. Maybe others have a better method? It took me nearly a month to clean up the 198 track links!

I have built several Dragon kits (currently working on a T34 and I have this particular King Tiger in my stash) so I was very anxious to see if you were going to point out any discrepancies in the instructions. I have yet to find a Dragon kit that does not have errors, mistakes or just plain poor instructions. And from what I have seen on various sites, is a common theme with Dragon. Nice kits, reasonable price, for the most part, great detail, but an absolute headache when it come to instructions. So when I see you bang through this kit, with all the PE parts in a weekend, I can only assume that either the instructions were flawless, or you are a masochist. :) Just out of curiosity, does The Hobby Centre carry that particular CA glue you mentioned?
@Panzermeister363 жыл бұрын
Hello Sammy! I don't recall any instruction errors in this kit...it all seemed to go smoothly. Typically the errors arise when they're reboxing older kits with new parts and old parts from other kits. So it happens a lot in their Pz III, Pz IV, StuG etc. lines when there are so many variants. And no, sadly the Hobby Centre doesn't have VMS products yet. I don't even think there is a Canadian distributor at the moment.

@@Panzermeister36 no kidding! If Dragon did a re-box or later release of the same kit I would assume the box art would have changed to indicate this, but I'm no expert on the subject that's for sure. Scalemates shows the box art with the "Dragon Zimmerit" logo in the upper right corner (which is what your kit shows) as a 2015 release with the following: (new production run w/ DS tracks). The same box art with the Dragon Zimmerit logo in the lower left is listed as a 2007 release and does not state "w/ DS tracks" I'm confused!@ Lol.

It looks pretty awesome! I can't say much as I haven't seen it in person, but from Andy's video it looks great.
