Just a heads up that the Antec C8 Curve Wood wasn't available in PC Part Picker as of time of filming. MSRP is $149.99. And don't forget fans! There's plenty of wiggle room in a budget like this, so pick and choose what works for you. Stay tuned for the follow-up video! Thanks for watching.

That's why you test with a minimal setup first. You don't build the entire pc up to the last screw an zip-tie before trying to tuen it on for the first time. For some readon I will never comprehend every single tech youtuber does this same mistake, again and again, no matter how many times it bites them in the posterior.

Lol happened to me with an SFF build motherboard was dead. Not sure if it came that way or if I borked the BIOS flash (did one of those plug a USB into your motherboard with nothing installed) BIOS updates. But got a new motherboard and all was well. It sucked having a complete build not work and having to tear it apart to fix it. But was happy when it all worked in the end.

I have come to commiserate, friends. Today I finally bit the bullet and decided to build my new rig. I’ve had all the parts ready to go for… an embarrassing amount of time; I was avoiding it because I was going to reuse my old case and hard drives, and I was switching from nvidia to amd, so I knew it would be a hassle. And, oh boy, it was. But I got it together eventually, booted it up, prepared to install the new drivers… and it blue screened. Repeatedly. But it wasn’t the drivers that were the problem at all, that was a red herring I spent way too much time on. Turns out one of the RAM modules was faulty (new, from Corsair). I tested both in the same slot, and one cause a blue screen within a minute, even if you were sitting on the login screen, while the other worked perfectly. It’s thanks to your fix or flop series that I even knew to do that.

I'm happy I built my PC when I did. Ordered everything in early April when the 7800X3D was still affordable. I got it on a Newegg flash sale to boot, paid $330 or $340 for the CPU, and got a 4070Ti Super for just over $800, but I could have gone for a cheaper model, I just really liked the look and specs of the one I got.

I personally got a 4070ti Super for the dual encoder. If I'm not mistaken, anything under a 4070ti does NOT have the dual encoder. I used to have a RTX 2080 Super and I could easily stream to KZbin & Record at the same BUT if I wanted to stream YT & Twitch then the encoder would overload. So I recently upgraded and now I can stream to YT with AV1, also record with AV1, and use NVENC H264 for streaming to Twitch & it's been working perfectly!

Sorry man, it sucks for your schedule.. but it certainly doesn't suck for the channel. Things like this happen, they are part of system building and it's cool that you leave it in and show the process instead of just fixing it off camera and pretending it was fine. Building is easy when everything works out of the box, but it's the diagnostic process when things go bad that is the true art of it all. Looking forward to the follow up to this, I have a feeling it will be a learning experience for many of us.

I recently had a new HTPC, that wouldn't post. Brand new EVGA PS, and when I checked it on a tester it was in "ATX Parameters". After swapping out almost all the other components of the build, it ended up the power supply. I was relieved and disappointed that all that trouble and it was the BRAND new EVGA. After all of that , I got a new power supply tester, a Thermaltake Dr. Power III. Can't wait to see your solution to that sweet build.

From my experience. If you're going to run OBS to stream/record. It's best to run a dual PC setup and use a dedicated streaming/editing PC. I have a high end PC (7800X3D, 64GB DDR5 6000 CL30, 4090) and as soon as I run OBS I instantly drop 20%+ fps (and I don't run anything fancy on in my OBS scenes). It is just not worth the performance drop to stream and game on the same PC. The streaming PC does not have to be a high end PC. You can repurpose your old PC to be a streaming PC.
@Dan-Simms
@Dan-Simms 2 ай бұрын
Said you have a 4090? Are you using NVENC to encode? It should only drop performance by like 2-3% like an unnoticeable amount.
@zhaf
@zhaf 2 ай бұрын
@@Dan-Simms I use NVENC. It doesn't matter of OBS is recording or streaming. Just launching it drops the performance by 20%+ while recording/streaming it doesn't add much more to the drop. It's the scenes that are heavy. I created a super light profile just for PC games with just one scene with the a game capture (not desktop capture) and a webcam capture. and that's it That's the profile that is dropping 20%+ frames. If I use my profile for consoles with a lot more scenes and effects it dropps frames by 35%+. It's OBS itself and the scenes that are heavy to run. It probably hits the CPU performance much more than the GPU performance.

Both PCs I have built in the last year failed to boot at first. I am no expert so thankfully I knew someone who could look into it. One was a front IO that was faulty and needed to be replaced (Antec C7 case). The other was a bad power supply from Corsair which was returned and replaced at the same time. Neither of which I would have figured out myself. I have to say it's reassuring to see what I would consider an expert builder and troubleshooter run in to similar issues.

I had a similar experience when I used a contact frame for the first time. But yes, those CPU socket pins looked a little off at 4:22. Second, that GPU is may be inadequate for streaming AAA games thanks to the limited VRAM. Over on Twitch the streamer Nethesem found he could not stream Star Wars Jedi Survivor on a 12 GB card without crashing. He resolved the issue by adding a second GPU to handle the streaming overhead.
@GregSalazar
@GregSalazar 2 ай бұрын
Game-specific issue. A vast majority won't come close to 12GB unless you're intentionally trying to saturate the frame buffer. If you want a 16GB card, go for it. But I wouldn't dissuade someone from 4070-ish performance over 12GB of VRAM.

I try to avoid cases with side fans, especially if there is room for 3 fans top and bottom. I also gave the C8 case a miss in my latest build because of the location of the PSU directly behind the CPU region in the case. Overall IMO cases like this are built for looks over function, trying to look flashier than others, as if that helps performance. p.s. if you are fitting side fans, try to at least buy reverse flow fans.

I am scratching my head right now, what went wrong? Hmm, maybe it is something with the socket/CPU contact when you had to remove the mechanism? A screw or something shorting the Mainboard from behind? I don't know.

I'm going with the AIO mounting bracket as the cause.

Would you have considered the 7800x3d for this build instead of Intel? More so for the headroom of upgradeability in the future?

I prefer Intel for the content creation side of things. Yes, this is a streaming PC, but some streamers like to edit and reupload streams after the fact, and Intel's iGP works wonders with Adobe's hardware acceleration. If Premiere or AE isn't in the picture, however, I would choose the 7800X3D for its superior gaming performance.

@@GregSalazar I'm considering the 7800x3d, but I plan to try and do some very light duty Twitch streaming would I still be good with a 7800x3d paired up with the 4090? I also do very light duty iRacing paints in Photoshop / Illustrator. I just dont like the idea of staying Intel especially with the problems and the end of the road factor. Currently I have said 4090 but I'm also running a i7-12700k and 64gb 3600 CL16 ddr4 ram and I feel like title dependent that Im being held back by the cpu/ram I'm using at 1440p 120hz / 120fps

Could it be the splooged thermal paste in the socket? Looks like someone sloooged paste all up in that socket and tried to clean it out before. @ 4:21

Suggestion for a future video: Pfsense router software installed on one of the Topton 6x 2.5Gb Intel LAN port mini PC's sold on AliExpress, or similar. Or: take the Brightline train to the Miami MicroCenter store.
